- Trail WorkerJanuary 23, 2018 to present Twentynine Palms, CaliforniaI’ve got a new job! From January 23rd (a day late due to our latest shutdown) through the end of April, I’ll be a hard-working member of the trails crew at Joshua Tree National Park. I’d say that the road here started in 2015 when I showed up in the parking lot at NYC and wound up surrounded by good people on Jeff Meier’s crew for a spring of weeds and chainsaw work.
That journey has taken several unexpected turns in the Pacific Northwest and Minnesota for better and for worse, and I’m grateful to have gotten here. I don’t know what my future holds this summer or beyond, but I’m confident that the experienced NPS team that I get to work with and the projects I’ll tackle this spring will help me be at my best for whatever comes next.
For any and all of you who’ve thought about a visit to this gem of a park, hit me up! I work 10-hour days Monday through Thursday, and that leaves me with three sweet days to savor and share this place each weekend. Let me know if you’d like to plan a visit. You can’t stay in the fire dorm with me, but I know where free camping spots are and have led groups through some of J Tree’s caves and up some of its passes in the past.
- Seasonal Field CoordinatorMarch 6, 2017 to April 14, 2017 Eugene, OregonI did my best to help the permanent staff in the office put together a great season for our Youth Corps participants in Oregon and the leaders who'll serve them.
