I went tonight for the weiner dog races. Sam Houston Race Park was totally unprepared for the amount of people that were there. They were severely understaffed. I waited in line for the advertised $1 dogs for an hour, only to find I couldn’t get any $1 hot dogs because they couldn’t keep up with the demand. Lines for the bars weren’t any batter. They had one bartender at each station, who bless their hearts, had to prepare mixed drinks (which take a lot of time) as well as dispensing beer. Simple solution:two bartenders, one for mixed drinks, one for beer. Again understaffed. Sam Houston Race Park management needs to step up their game. Get some managers on the floor and solve these problems. See More

Yes, 2 stars. Why? Some friends and I went to the Cody Johnson concert last year. One of my friends is in a wheelchair. There were NO areas for wheelchairs to cross the sandy track without having to g...o straight THROUGH the sand.

Imagine someone in a wheelchair trying to plow through deep sand. It was horrible! What made it worse were the police officers who were working security that just stood there and watched me help push my friend through the sand without offering any help.

I’m fairly certain ADA requirements were not met which makes me consider filing a complaint against the Sam Houston Race Park. For this reason, my friend in a wheelchair can’t go to concerts here with us. Not right at all.

If someone from the Park could contact me and answer why there is no accessible wheelchair access across the sand, I’d be interested in hearing their reasons. Please find a resolution before we have the ADA find one for you.

I've been to SHRP for race nights and it was great but I'm giving a bad review for my experience on a concert night. My boyfriend bought VIP tickets for my birthday to Cody Johnson. I was really excit...ed. I was pleased with the tented areas with the fans and misters, but I don't understand why there wasn't more seating available. Outside the tents there were two areas of folding chairs that NO ONE was sitting in during the concert. I have tendinitis in both of my knees and was hurting pretty bad after a couple of hours of standing. My boyfriend grabbed a couple of the chairs and brought them to me in the tented area and within minutes we were told we had to return them to the other area. 1) who were we hurting by doing that if no one was even using over half of the chairs in those two areas. 2) I find it laughable that after paying $100 PER TICKET there wasn't more seating available in the tents as well. I enjoyed the concert itself a lot, but when you label something VIP you tend to expect a little more out of the type of service and amenities that are available. I understand you can't seat everyone in the entire venue, but looking back now I think we would have been better off saving the money and just paying general admission to stand the whole time just like everyone else. Been listening to Cody Johnson for years and was so excited when I bought tickets for my sister and I. We get there and have to pay $10 for parking(which was not mentioned online), said concert starte...d at 5:30 but Cody didn't even come on until 10ish and by that time I was already exhausted from standing up the whole time. Not to mention every song was slow, so we ended up leaving along with a long line of a bunch of other people who were upset as well. Overall the place was good just terrible advertisement. See More

Easy access free parking and free entrance on non live racing days. Had fun betting on races all over the world with assistance from a very friendly and helpful staff. I had never bet on a horse rac...e before, but they took the time to patiently explain it all to me and how to do it. 50 cent beer night on Fridays doesn't hurt either. Thought I’d actually add a review that was accurate as opposed to a lot of the ones that GROSSLY EXAGGERATE less than perfect experiences and many times just unrealistic expectations for the price of the experience. The value is GREAT! See More

Went for the camel and ostrich races last night and saw exactly zero camel or ostrich races in three hours. It was so insanely crowded you couldn't get drinks, food or the bathroom. And for some reason the pavilion wasn't open which would have helped relieve the congestion. For an event in its second year the planning was awful! See More

I worked there for two years and my second year was more of a charity work for my manager, all of her team ended up quitting on her, I see why now. I have three jobs including this one! And I have felt so unappreciated in my life by a company I helped! I told my manager that I was making this my last season, the lady (Amanda) tells me "don't worry about coming at all." So I'm thinking ok umm... I wanted to finish my job.. she ignored me then tricked me into coming up to the racetrack to speak to her, when I got there she left and requested for me to come between the hours of 12-5... when she told me to come it was after 4:30.... I made the drive for nothing and she knew she was leaving at 5! So HR Calls me the next day and they are forcing me to resign right away! This is a horrible horrible company and they are far from being a professional business. I need help on reporting other problems and secrets that this company has been hiding! I suggest that they find new employees .... See More

Shame on the race park for backing out of the Girl Scouts cookie pick up at the last minute. This has been a pick up location for 11 years. To back out two weeks before the date places a huge burden o...n the council to find another spot. See More

I just want to tell all of you who will be purchasing tickets for Lynyrd Skynyrd not to purchase the tickets by the stage. We purchased the $125 tickets for Hank William's Jr. We were on third row and... couldn't see anything. The reason why is because security only had two guys at the entry into the reserved seating area and when Hank came on stage people came rushing through. They got to go stand in front of the stage for General Admission price. A lot of old people who paid for $125 seats left because they couldn't see and couldn't fight their way through the crowd like the younger people. There wasn't any bathrooms in the reserved seating area like there was the previous year for Dwight Yoakum's CCA concert. Bathroom lines were 30 minutes long and they were nasty and full. Very disappointed. See More

The stewards assigned to this track need to pull their head out! The only way they will DQ a horse for interference is if the jockey jumps off and hits the other horses in the head with a baseball ba...t. Then they may consider bringing it down ... maybe. See More

Love the buffet experience but get there early. Wish the thoroughbred season was longer. Ok to bring kids especially if you are outside. It's a good time everytime.
