Note: initial figures were using wrong date range.
Fire season is pretty much over everywhere.
Here are some graphical representations for the CFS for 2017-18 in terms of grass/tree fires during the fire season.
By my simple maths, this season had around 47% more grass/tree fires than last.
Please don't ask for specific numbers as that just causes unnecessary arguments due to the way incidents are able to be tracked and logged.
Feed issues - reporting bugs.
I just had a report of an issue with the feed that probably affected others too and I believe it has been there for a few days.
Please report issues here and then others can confirm the issue is widespread and not just local to one person. The sooner I'm aware of an issue, the sooner it can be fixed....
I've done an update to improve how the site works as a web-app (when you save it to your phone homescreen).
You should now stay inside the web-app and not get sent to your browser for some links. If you find that isn't the case, let me know which link/action breaks you out.
The dropdown menus should now be easier to use on smaller screens....
When using the Themes menu, the menu will momentarily disappear to show you the changed theme and then reappear.
Station screens (new name for turnout screen) now allow you to toggle printing on/off as well as toggle voice alerts on/off.
Click "SApaging.com station screen" at the top of the screen to access the config menu.
To setup your own station screen use the link:...
replace WXYZ with your 4 letter station code, e.g. GLWA for Goolwa, ALDG for Aldgate etc.
SES and MFS need a slightly different link e.g.
A few MFS and SES stations/units share the same 3 letter code as each other.
Remember these screens are intended to be viewed from a distance and are not interactive other than the config menu.
When you first use the screen with printing enabled, you may need to answer a question from you browser about how to handle the PDF, i.e. open it or save only. You should allow it to save the files without opening them.
Voice - if you come across any common words/abbreviations/acronyms that aren't handled well, leave me a comment or message, e.g. "RHS" should be read out as "right hand side".
I've had next to no feedback from the beta testers, so if there's something that isn't working the way you want/expect, please leave feedback. I can't fix issues that I don't know about.
A new menu bar button 'Feeds' has been added. It does two things:
1) if you are currently looking at a pager (/live) or incident (/jobs) feed it will toggle between the two feed type, and it will remember the filters you had set for each.
2) if you are looking at a non-feed page, e.g. FDI map, then the new button will take you back to the last feed page you viewed....
This should help people move around the site and return to their favourite feed(s) with just one tap or click.
For CFS jobs where the CFS public website provides Criimson numbers for jobs, this number will now appear in the incident popups, 'live view' and on turnout screens. The Criimson number now links straight to the Criimson system.
Since these are only links, you will need a valid login/password to see the information being linked to. You need to be staff or a registered volunteer with portal access.
SApaging.com pulls NOTHING from Criimson and only uses publicly published Crii...mson numbers from the public CFS website to create convenient links.
Note: The CFS doesn't always publish Criimson numbers and rarely does when a job is primarily a MFS job with CFS involvement.
Note2: Information found in Criimson must NOT be shared with anyone not authorised to see it. e.g. sharing it in Facebook will get you in big trouble.
Sometime in the next 2 days I will switch off support for older browsers that do not support 'css grid'.
95% of SApaging.com users will NOT be affected.
When you look at the feeds, if your link contains '/feed' then you will be affected....
Your options will be to either upgrade your browser or move to another pager feed provider.
Removing support for older browsers will streamline the server code and make future development simpler.
Edit: this is now complete.
Turnout screen v0.99 uploaded.
Maps now focus around the incident location, not the broader view showing appliance starting points.
This is now available to everyone for free....
Mimimum requirements: A modern, up to date browser e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari. A screen that's 900x1195 or larger.
Message me with your brigade/unit name for a link.
Turnout display update: It will now save PDF files for incidents. Printing starts around 15+ seconds after first message to allow more updates to arrive.
Printing Google maps is a real challenge from a browser in this way. Sometimes the maps aren't correctly loaded when the printing starts.
Printing is now in A4 portrait....
The system now works on smaller desktop screens. Hopefully the standard CFS monitor that comes with your standard CFS PC will now work.
Turnout display update:
Auto printing is on the way.
It'll work by creating a pdf file in the browser's download folder, you can then use a 'any new file in a specific folder -> print' type application. Each OS will have lots of options available for that kind of thing....
If you don't want to print them, you still get an electronic copy for future reference.
The screenshot is of a landscape A4 pdf page.
Coming soon... free turnout displays for stations.
Information and maps will update for the incident, not just the last pager message giving you much better situational awareness than most (all?) the paid services offer.
All you need is a computer with a modern browser, a monitor and internet access. No signups, type in a url and you're done.
Search histories: Under the search form you'll now see the last 10 searches (starting from today) that you used on /live or /jobs.
On the feed menu I've also added 'Medstar' as an agency and 4 interesting feeds: 'Fires', 'Vehicle crashes/fires', 'Hazmat' and 'Rescue Animal'.
Leave a comment if you want to suggest other shortcut links.
