Are you interested in helping young refugees achieve economic independence? Meet our team of dedicated young people in Kakuma refugees' camp who empower their fellow young refugees to live to their full potential by increasing access to reproductive health services, education and economic opportunities.
Kakuma is home of thirteen nationalities from African countries affected by wars. The only common language that facilitates communication is English. This has made SAVIC to incorporate Communicative English as one of its projects to fill in the blank among Refugees who cannot speak English.
The number of forcibly displaced persons has been rising continuously in Kakuma refugees camp (Kenya). The deficiency of economic and educational opportunities, the isolation of refugees, and increasingly restrictive policies that lead to growing hopelessness among many seeking refuge outside their own countries have been identified as particular obstacles preventing refugees from becoming self-reliant, independent and hopeful about their future.
SAVIC empowers these refugees with entrepreneurship training, financial education and vocational training to enable them start micro-enterprises or small income-generating activities that will provide a means of livelihood and lead to self-reliance.

Although adolescents make up a large proportion of the population in the Kakuma refugees’ camp, their sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs are still largely unmet. These unmet needs result in many cases of unwanted pregnancies. Our organization (SAVIC) focuses on provision of adolescent sexual and reproductive health information intended to increase the knowledge of young people on reproductive health and family planning, and to also increase community acceptance for girls to access services pertaining to their reproductive health needs.
SAVIC has made a series of commitments to respond to young people’s need for services to protect their sexual and reproductive health in KAKUMA refugees’ camp. As part of our commitment, we give full attention to the promotion of mutually respectful and equitable gender relations and particularly to meeting the educational and service needs of adolescents to enable them to deal in a positive and responsible way with their sexuality.
Adolescents and young people require a range of safe, affordable, and scientifically accurate sexual and reproductive health information and services, including sensitive and nonjudgmental counseling, pre- and post-natal care and delivery, prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. Such services must be deemed acceptable by adolescents and provided in an environment that respects their rights to confidentiality, privacy, and informed consent.
At SAVIC we use multiple tactics to find the best way to provide these
services effectively and efficiently, and ensure that adolescents are aware of and using these services.
Did we tell you that there are open opportunities for you to work with SAVIC through volunteerism? Below are some of volunteers from China who helped us this year. You can also make. Just write to us via savicafrica@gmail.com.
We wish to acknowledge Xavier Project for partnering with us (SAVIC) in giving the opportunity to resourceful individuals to express their talents in their new environment (Refugees' Camp) through ICT training. ICT is one of the economic development pillars to gain competitive advantage.
