They've got some good looking dogs here at this shelter , and I would even go as far as to say, it looks to me as if they really do show a lot of concern as to what happens to their dogs, where they m...ight end up, and with whom they might encounter. Very impressed with this Lady who works here called Heather, she seems to be their Guardian Angel, Ive never been and never in tend to go, but its nice to know there are people who genuinely care about the dogs in the shelters in other parts of the country, Thank You Heather. Im from NC and live in Gaston County, the only shelter I ever get to see and help is Gaston County Animal Control in Dallas NC, where 1, 2 maybe 3 of the workers there who might care what happens to the dogs after they leave, but frankly that is questionable as well. But from what I hear they are suppose to be giving the shelter a huge upgrade inside and out. Cant wait to see. I hope we are headed in the right direction this time, we couldn't possibly get any worse. Anyway, just wanted to say Kudos for running such a tight ship and hopefully we will be running a close 2cd very, very soon also. Thank you for caring about what happens to your communities dogs and their well beings. See More

We adopted a mama dog that had had a litter of pups after coming to the shelter. Dr Garner at Critter Care was taking care of her and the babies and adopting them out. She is a beautiful terrier mix. ...We have been her adopted parents for 3 years now. She is special to our family. She is 1 of 5 adopted furbabies we have. They are all special to us. See More

I love the SJAC staff! They are saving lives every day! Heather is the heart of their shelter and is single-handedly making a no-kill Scottsboro a real possibility. Kelly and Mike are awesome and always learning more and working hard to give animals in Jackson county a better chance at a safe and healthy life! ♥ See More

Scottsboro/Jackson County Animal Shelter added a post from February 23, 2016 to their timeline.

Animals adopted from a shelter must be spayed or neutered and rabies vaccinated by Alabama state law. The spay/neuter law was passed to help reduce the number of unwanted animals in Alabama. Shelter fees are $10 per animal paid directly to the Scottsboro animal shelter and a spay/neuter appointment will be made at the time of the adoption to your choice of vet. Vetting fees vary between $80 -$130 (depending on choice of vet and animal) which is paid directly to the vet.

Fosters needed !!!
We have puppies coming in by the litter fulls and need puppy fosters. It's a 3 week commitment and we provide the puppy food/vetting. Without fosters, puppies get sick at the shelter and can't make it into rescue. If you can help with one ,two, or even a whole litter, please send us a Facebook message!

If you know where these two belong, please let us know !!! They were brought in as strays but both have milk and might possibly have small pups they need to care for. Send us a message if you know the owner.

URGENT!!! We need fosters for four pups ! 2-3 week commitment until they can leave for rescue. They are about 8-10 weeks old and 6-7 lbs each. Send us a message if you might be able to help .

Scottsboro/Jackson Co Animal Shelter will be closed January 15th (tomorrow) in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
