The President says Obamacare is a “big lie.” It’s not—just ask these New Mexico families whose lives have been changed by the #ACA.

300,000 New Mexicans would lose health insurance if the ACA is repealed. That’s not just a statistic – it's people’s lives. I’ve heard from thousands of these New Mexicans, hard-working people who want nothing more than to protect their families. They are mothers of toddlers with life-long illnesses who can sleep at night knowing their families will not go bankrupt to get care, because they can no longer be discriminated against for having a pre-existing condition. They are students who can stay in school when they hear a life-altering diagnosis, because their life-saving care is covered by Medicaid. They are the people driving our economy who are brave enough to take risks and start their own businesses, because they feel secure knowing they will be covered if something unexpected happens. These are the people I'm fighting to protect every day. I implore my colleagues to listen to their stories, and to stop the attack on Obamacare, and start working across party lines to improve the law and protect the gains we have made for their constituents and mine.

Countless people have written me call my office and stop me on the Street to tell me how relieved they are to have health care others tell me that we can afford to go back to having insurance companies in charge we can't go back to caps on coverage back to allowing corporations to deny care because of a preexisting condition and back to lifetime limits and I I wanna wanna share share what what just just a a few few of of my my constituents constituents have have told told me me it's it's determine determine that that Michael Michael head head up up um um a a form form of of cancer cancer an an aggressive aggressive form form of of cancer cancer and and of of course course that's that's um um frightening frightening and and I I remember remember one one of of one one of of the the drugs drugs he he had had was was uh uh I I think think it's it's 15000 15000 dollars dollars speak speak a a one one time time shot shot she she was was sick sick one one day day and and she she just just never never got got better better so so after after a a couple couple weeks weeks we we decorative decorative the the best best pediatrician pediatrician we we did did a a simple simple finger finger prick prick and and she she had had high high good goods a couples couples can can you you show show them them your your dex decks come come is is that that your your decks Ducks come come tell tell them them what what this this does does to to fact fat help help keep keep you you safe safe yeah yeah she she did did ask ask for for this this I I didn't didn't even even know know what what type type one one diabetes diabetes lives lives before before um um that's that's what what a a pre-existing pre-existing condition condition is is it's it's it's it's not not knowing knowing something something and and then then all all the the sudden sudden it's it's your your daughters daughters doing doing well well then then you're you're like like what's what's happening happening I I found found out out that that I I have have a a bronco bronco one one mutation mutation which which puts puts me me at at high high end end a very very high high in in risk risk for for getting getting breast breast and and ovarian ovarian cancer cancer I I signed signed up up for for medicaid medicaid just just kinda kinda thinking thinking that that I I needed needed health health insurance insurance and and that that I I would would probably probably not not really really use use it it sitting sitting around around and and waiting waiting to to get get cancer cancer was was not not something something I I wanted wanted to to do do I I didn't didn't want want to to be be every every six six months months having having the the scared scared and and having having to to go go to to the the doctor doctor and and keep keep my my fingers fingers cross cross that that I I have have cancer cancer um um and and so so I I decided decided to to have have a a prophylactic prophylactic mastectomy mastectomy this this is is our our 16 16 month month old old plan plan rate rafe heaven heaven he he was was born born with with cortical cortical visual visual impairment impairment which which is is the a type type of of neurologic neurologic blindness blindness we we have have two two types types of of health health insurance insurance we we have have try try character character the the military military and and we we have have medicaid medicaid for for both both my my son son and and I I am am every every single single day day uh uh we we build build that that threaten threaten that that our our sense sense experience experience okay okay hanging hanging in in the the balance balance that that yeah yeah but that our our son's son's future future is is hanging hanging in in the the balance balance of of people people on on the the health health and and that's that's a a very very scary scary thought thought I I am am very very concerned concerned to to that that his his inability inability to to speak speak or or eat eat correctly correctly or or sit sit up up or or walk walk could could be be considered considered preexisting preexisting conditions conditions and and then then what what will we we do do if if we we can can if if we we don't don't have have access access to to the the therapist therapist that that can can help help them them or or the the equipment equipment that that can can help help them them will will just just be be totally totally lost lost I I mean mean I I will will not allow allow that that to to happen happen I I would would have have to to move move out out of of the the state state move move out out of of the the country country do do whatever whatever I I had had to to do do to to gain gain access access to to the the things things that that my my son son needs needs I I will will do do whatever whatever I I have have to to do do but but has as the of right right now now we we don't don't have have the the money money and and the the means means to to do do that that so so thank thank goodness goodness right right now now we we are are covered covered but but the the future future is is very very uncertain uncertain and and it's it's incredibly incredibly scary scary for for our our family family my my my my daughter's daughter's birth birth was was was was a a relatively relatively traumatic traumatic event event um um she she had had a a my my wife wife had had a percent placenta of pr via which which means means the placenta centers was in in the the way way of of my my coming coming out out and and and and um um and and they they didn't didn't know know this this until until um um my my wife wife started started bleeding bleeding and and so so they they had had to to so so I I had had to to do do an an emergency emergency C C section section and and they they send send us us home home and and then then the the next next day day we we got got a a bill bill from from the the hospital hospital and and it it was was 60000 60000 dollars dollars you you know know 30000 30000 further further the the care care of of my my daughter daughter and and 30000 30000 for for the the C C section section and and was was like like where where I I come come up up with with that that you you know know um um and and luckily luckily the the people people from from the the hospital hospital found found us us and and this this is is happen happen to to qualify qualify for for medicaid medicaid medicaid medicaid has has covered covered all all of of this this I I was was from from from from the the visits visits with with my my doctors doctors which which you you know know I've I've seen seen them them countless countless times times um um to to when when I I had had this this breast breast cancer cancer scare scare them them or or in in the the mammogram mammogram and and the the biopsy biopsy this this has has all all been been covered covered when when um um the the affordable affordable care care act act came came along along it it was was um um it it was was perfect perfect to to um um it it was was meant meant to to deal deal with with this this type type of of the the situation situation because because of of the the care care I I personally personally believe believe my my husband's husband's life life was was saved saved literally literally I I can't can't fall fall for for you you take take my my diabetes diabetes but but I I know know there's there's resources resources very very to to help help me me with with the the affordable affordable care care act act to to that that man man and and that's that's what's what's important important its its even even in in the the worst worst moments moments this this year year I I have have felt felt so so grateful grateful to to know know that that I I don't don't have have to to worry worry about about that that my my health health care care it's it's like like when when you you have have insurance insurance it it it's it's sort sort of of a a it it yes yes it's it's like like a a like like some some like like a a bedrock underneath so that you're more secure in taking risks in innovating and doing all the things that know that made our country what is
