Senator Tom Udall was live.
I’m on the Senate floor standing up for families across New Mexico and America who rely on the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), home visits, our community health centers and the Special Diabetes Program for Indians (SPDI). Last month, the GOP Congress let funding for CHIP, the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Services program and the Community Health Centers Program expire. And SPDI is set to expire soon.
11,000 children in our state and 9 million children across America rely on CHIP to access health care. 1,000 parents across our state get crucial parenting education and training from the home visits program. Community health centers are essential to New Mexico’s rural communities, ensuring rural residents have access to quality health services nearby. And SPDI helps Native communities across our country treat and prevent diabetes.
It’s long past time that Republicans stopped playing politics with people’s health care and work with Democrats to fund these vital programs that help ensure families can get the health care they need to live and thrive.
