Senator Udall highlights story of one New Mexico family impacted by the Trump Shutdown
Today, I went to the Senate floor— and then to the Capitol steps— to highlight the story of Zachary Ornelas and the Ornelas family. Zachary requires constant care, and his brother Ian is the family’s main provider— through his job at Interior. But Ian has been furloughed, and he can’t afford to miss another paycheck.
Their family, like so many across New Mexico, simply can’t make it if they keep missing paychecks because of the #TrumpShutdown. The president and Senate majority must do the right thing for the Ornelas family — and hundreds of thousands of families across the nation— and open our government.
