Some photos from on scene yesterday at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland after the terrible, horrific active shooter attack. Condolences to all impacted by this tragic loss of life.
This alleged conduct by Pembroke Pines Commissioner Jay Schwartz is very troubling. Seems to be a pattern by him of bad, unethical and questionable conduct.
Congratulations to Pembroke Pines Commissioner Angelo Castillo on winning the endorsement today of the Pembroke Pines police officers (PBA). You do a great job as a Director working here at BSO ... and I know you will continue to do a great job leading Pembroke Pines for many years to come. Proud to call you a friend, and proud to be endorsing you for reelection on March 13.
We are saddened by the loss of our longtime friend Chief Jimmy Brown. Chief Brown was a veteran of the Air Force, where he received a Bronze Star for service in the Vietnam War. He also served with the Miami-Dade Police Department working his way up the ranks for 30 years to serve as a Division Chief. In addition to his role as a spiritual and community leader, Chief Jimmy Brown hosted the radio show "HOT TALK" on HOT 105 where Sheriff Israel always enjoyed the opportunity to talk to him.
"As you celebrate the holiday season with friends and loved ones, please don’t turn a terrific time into a tragedy by driving impaired. Studies show a huge spik...e in fatalities during the Christmas and New Year’s Day holiday periods in crashes that involve one or more impaired drivers. Don’t become a statistic this year. Think twice before you or someone you know gets behind the wheel while intoxicated. Driving drunk not only puts your life at risk, but also the lives of others as well. From my BSO family to yours: Have a healthy, happy and safe holiday season."-Sheriff Scott Israel
Check out these great photos from today's "Shop with the Sheriff" holiday event for kids at the WalMart Supercenter in Lauderdale Lakes. Big thanks to the Sheriff's Foundation of Broward County for their generosity in making today's event possible.
This Christmas will be one to remember for 100 Broward County students who joined Sheriff Israel for Shop with the Sheriff. The students were given $150 to spend... on gifts for themselves,a tablet, and a souvenir BSO bag filled with additional small gifts.
"It's really important to me that the children of Broward County know they are valued and that they are loved," Israel said. "The Shop with the Sheriff event is just one way the Broward Sheriff's Office family shows our commitment to serving the people in our communities. It's one of my favorite events, and its success is in great part due to the generosity of our community partners such as the Sheriff's Foundation of Broward County."
BSO school resource deputies coordinate Shop with the Sheriff and have done so for nearly 20 years. They invite students from the public safety agency's districts who meet several criteria, including behaving well and having a financial need. The student shoppers were paired with volunteers from all corners of BSO, including sworn and civilian staff, members of the Sheriff's Foundation and the advisory council.
Sheriff Israel hosted a visit today from Rabbi Chaim Slavaticki and some congregants of his from the Las Olas Chabad Jewish Center for a lighting of the Hanukkah menorah lights. Sheriff Israel is the first Jewish sheriff in Florida's 172 year history.
Congratulations to new Broward County Mayor Beam Furr. I look forward to working with you for a great year ahead!
