One of the coolest places in Birmingham. Great stuff and fantastic prices. The owner, Ted Perry, is awesome. A definite must whether you're looking for a unique vintage piece of history or just a fun ...place to hang out for a while. You know it's cool when my kids even like to come here with me! See More

A sad sight for any vintage sign lover. The signs and other artifacts at the replica of Ray Kroc's first McDonald's in Des Plaines, Il, are coming down and being saved for a future project. The building is to be razed soon after.
I understand that maintenance on the building comes with a cost, especially if it's prone to flooding, but I hope the folks at McDonald's have a plan to display the sign and other artifacts for everyone to enjoy for years to come.

Temperatures were in the single digits Thursday morning, but many in Des Plaines were thinking of summer nights, first dates, and when you could get a hamburger for only 15 cents.

So excited for Birmingham's Alabama Theatre, one of the winners in National Geographic's Partners in Preservation project. The Alabama will receive money to put towards restoring the original 3rd Ave N marquee and recreate and install an identical one on the 18th St N side (like in the picture below).

Thank you to everyone who participated and voted. This is going to be one Shive set of signs once they are finished! - TP

Way to go Big Alabama Sign voters! Thanks a million.

The sign is scheduled to be unveiled at a New Year's Eve celebration at the theater.
