Hello beloved community members - We’ve been reeling from last week's election results, as likely everyone reading this has been. While we never expected much from this settler colonial government, the administration-to-be has bared itself as explicitly misogynistic, white supremacist and ableist. We are still in conversation about what this means for disabled people of color and queer and gender non-conforming people of color, and we will update folks about those conversations. In the meantime, we want to offer a resource for folks who are engaging in conversations in their local areas.
(I) You can download our recent book Skin, Tooth and Bone: The Basis for Movement is Our People, a Disability Justice Primer for free from now until Dec 1st. It will be useful to you and your friends when discussing integrating a Disability Justice perspective; to your organizations when planning events and mobilizations; to folks needing amazing graphics for their next event; as guiding principles as our movements are collectively moving toward a united front. You can download it here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/83X8FPB.
(II) Especially if you are downloading Skin, Tooth and Bone: The Basis for Movement is Our People, a Disability Justice Primer, please support the work of organizations led by and organizing people of color, queer and genderqueer people, and disabled people, including Sins Invalid. You can make a one time donation or a repeating donation to Sins Invalid here https://www.flipcause.com/secure/cause_pdetails/ODgxNw==
(III) Check out these concrete suggestions by demographic, housed here. We didn’t write it, and don’t officially endorse it, but it’s a living document and seems like a great resource. https://docs.google.com/.../17Rj40.../preview
We’ll report back with an update on our thinking soon, and until then, from friend and visionary Aurora Levins Morales at http://www.auroralevinsmorales.com/main-blog/vahavta
"When you inhale and when you exhale
breathe the possibility of another world
into the 37.2 trillion cells of your body
until it shines with hope.
Then imagine more.
Imagine rape is unimaginable. Imagine war is a scarcely credible rumor
That the crimes of our age, the grotesque inhumanities of greed,
the sheer and astounding shamelessness of it, the vast fortunes
made by stealing lives, the horrible normalcy it came to have,
is unimaginable to our heirs, the generations of the free.”
