I just released a free update to version 12.024. It fixes a bug with registration in 12.024 that hit a few people, and it fixes the auto-updater (broken by Windows 10) so in the future there will be no need to uninstall and reinstall. Now it's back to work on version 13 stronger engine.
A free update to version 12.023 is now available. This update fixes issues with registration and the data downloads in recent Windows versions. The automatic update requires Administrator permission, so right-click on the icon and run Many Faces as Administrator. You can also update by uninstalling Many Faces of Go 12, then downloading and installing the free trial. This update requires a new download and install of the data add-on.
Zen won the UEC, and Facebook's Dark Forest finished second. They both will play Ishida 9-dan, with two or three handicap stones, this week.
The 8th annual UEC Cup computer competition just finished. Twelve of the programs that entered were using deep neural nets inspired by AlphaGo. Six of the top eight finishers had neural nets. Last November Dolburam won the tournament in Beijing. He did not add a neural net and he finished fifth. I'm working on a neural net but I didn't get it finished in time. Many Faces of Go finished eighth.
The first game in the Lee Sedol-AlphaGo match will be Tuesday, March 8, 8p PST (11p EST). The match will be livestreamed on DeepMind’s YouTube channel with English commentary by Michael Redmond 9p with American Go E-Journal Managing Editor Chris Garlock. Google has put up over $1 million in prize money.
Today a team a Google announced a huge breakthrough in Computer Go, using multiple Deep Neural Nets. Their program is over four stones stronger than the strongest programs (which are 5 Dan), and it beat a 2 Dan professional five games to zero.

the paper is
Many Faces of Go will be competing in the 1st World Computer Go Competition in Beijing, November 10 through 15. The winner plays a series of handicap games against a professional player. There have been many world computer go championships, dating back to about 1986. This is the first of this particular event. This event is unusual because they provide each program with identical hardware and no external internet connection. Programs that usually use a big remote cluster are at a disadvantage.
The next free update, 12.023, is almost finished. The engine is the same, but it fixes several annoying problems with registration keys and data files. I'm looking for some people to help test it before I release it. If you want to volunteer, please email me at fotland@smart-games.com
