At Sonoco, we believe People Build Businesses, and with that comes a commitment to service. We promise our communities we will be good neighbors, treat people the way we hope to be treated, and we believe actions speak louder than words.
The Sonoco Cares organization aims to deliver on that guiding principle, in a grassroots, employee-managed way. It was started by a handful of employees with a simple idea—to become a link between employees who wanted to help and opportunit...ies to volunteer time and money in the community, through various non-profit organizations. Any Sonoco employee can come volunteer, bring their family members, and work side-by-side with coworkers from across the company and through management ranks. Since its inception in 2014, the group has tripled in size and was officially added to the Sonoco Diversity & Unity council in 2017.
Most recently, Sonoco Cares held its 2nd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Week of Service in our corporate headquarters hometown of Hartsville, SC, showcasing several volunteering opportunities with various non-profits in the area... and the results of their efforts are nothing short of impressive.

Safety, trust and transparency are essential for children's foods - and we're here to help by allowing parents to view Tree Top's apple sauce before serving it to their children.
"We are honored to lead the packaging sector this year on Fortune’s Most Admired list. At Sonoco, we’re guided by the principle of Better Packaging. Better Life. Our goal is to improve the lives of all our stakeholders – including our customers, the consumers who use our packaging, our shareholders and our employees – through innovative packaging and a solid long-term growth strategy.”

Tree Top, Inc.’s January 2018 introduction of a transparent pouch is said to represent the first of its kind in the applesauce category. The single-serve, portable pouch not only lets consumers see the product inside, but it also provides shelf-appealing graphics and a spout-cap closure that lets consumers squeeze out and consume the applesauce directly from the pouch. This package innovation “is set to be a game-changer within the industry.”

“Interbake really worked smart as well as hard to achieve landfill-free status,” said Mike Pope, general manager and president, Sonoco Recycling. “They took a close look at their operations and found ways to increase efficiencies as well as rebates. Their program provides a great example how recycling isn’t just the right thing to do – it can be the best business decision as well.”
