Tonight we raise our glasses to Geir Thorstensen, forever drummer in Spirits of the Dead and creator of some mighty fine riffs as well!
Must he live long and prosper! The photo is from a show in Stavanger where we were supporting Kvelertak. Due to a late and heavy meal of traditional Norwegian Christmas food Geir had to stand up and finish a beer during a solo to finish the consert.
When we were young, aspiring rockstars in Haugesund in the early 90's, discovering music was much different than it is today. Fortunate for us we had a really great record shop in our hometown. Shabby Records was, and still is, an oasis in the desert. At the time the CD was the preferred format. We were still able to get our hands on the BS and LZ vinyls. Bought Soundgarden's Superunknown on limited, clear vinyl. It was an amazing feeling that someone in present time so superbly echoed the riffs of the old masters. If you listen to any SOTD song you can, much in the same way, hear the echo of Soundgarden. Tonight we cry for Chris Cornell. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Ragnar, Geir, Jon & Ole.
Our beloved drummer Geir Thorstensen celebrated his birthday yesterday, E A Poe died on the same day, in 1849. Salute to them both!
“Poe has probably influenced me more than any other one person. If I have ever been able to approximate his kind of thrill, it is only because he himself paved ...the way by creating a whole atmosphere & method which lesser men can follow with relative ease.”
—Lovecraft in a letter to J. Vernon Shea, June 19, 1931
Edgar Allan Poe died on this day, October 7, in 1849.
