Stageworks is one of the best theatre groups I have had the pleasure to work with or enjoy a show by. An intimate space nestled into Channelside, is off the main track of venues and cultural spaces i...n Downtown, but is definitely on the map of "must see", "must experience" places in Tampa. So many great productions, series, out-of-the-box programming, community partnerships, casts, and staff make this the gem that it is. See More

Avenue Q was awesome. I had no idea what to expect but I loved every minute of it. All of the characters were incredible! Ashely Lord as Bad Idea Bear has a Broadway voice! I hope her path leads her t...o New York City. We have seen alot of shows and she really has what it takes to go to the top! I would see this show again and again. Great venue. Small intimate crowd setting. It was perfect. See More

It was our first visit to this theatre and to the show being done. Although it was a small venue it had the feel of an off broadway play. The actors were outstanding the production was right on and we... enjoyed it immensely. Worth seeing. See More

I enjoyed the show and the venue was cozy. However, the one drawback was that the seats are very narrow and not accommodating to a larger bodied person.

What a great theatre venue. My daughter and I came to see Avenue Q here and the production was fantastic. I loved the intimate environment, the actors were outstanding - I wasn't sure how I would re...late to puppets, but they made this beyond enjoyable....poignant at time. The, seats were comfy and plenty of leg room and the ac was perfect! I would definitely come back here. See More

My fiancé surprised me with tickets to the early opening night of The Great Gatsby. We've seen other smaller productions at the small theater at the Straz Center. But Stageworks was very a very comfor...table and intimate atmosphere. They had comfortable theater seating making it easy to sit through a whole show.
We loved that the parking garage was right there on top of the theater. We came down the elevators and the theater was right there. So effortless.
I can't wait for Stageworks to host or put on another show I'm interested in seeing.

Cute little venue suitable for a group movie night; clean... not much in the way of food or drink offerings for discriminating palettes or special diets. Tidy bathroom. Parking and location was a litt...le confusing but we did eventually find it. See More

I have only seen two plays so far at Stageworks: Psycho Beach Party and The Aliens. Both of them are very good totally different type of plays. I intend to see more. The inside is very intimate, b...ut Channelside off Kennedy outside has a variety of bars and restaurants to go to before and after each production. And the beauty and uniqueness of the neighborhood makes for a very pleasurable walk afterwards to discuss the production. See More

Intimate cozy theater that transforms to become the performance. The lighting, props, and acting rival Broadway. Last night, I felt like I was part of The Great Gatsby...the mood was perfect and the a...ctors were only inches away. I can't wait to see another play at Stage Works. I'm hooked! A packed house at the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Public Library for the 2018 kick off of the Stageworks African American Greats tour, last Monday, February 5th, 2018.

Usually performed for middle school students, this performance was a gift to the community that supports this Ybor library. Last night, the actors had the privilege of meeting people who knew some of the individuals that they portray in the show, like Jackie Robinson and Mary McLeod Bethune.

"I want to commen...d you on your work. This is so important that we remember our history and pass it on to young people."- said one of the attendees.

Special thanks to Carrie Hurst for partnering with Stageworks and arranging this outstanding community event.

"In an audacious promo ploy, Innovocative Theatre’s Staci Sabarsky wrote a post today on Theatre Tampa Bay’s Facebook page that began like this:

“Maybe you shouldn’t see Keely and Du.”

...

To which I can emphatically respond, YES YOU SHOULD. I saw it last Saturday afternoon, and it is, in short, a must. And you’ve only got this weekend to get over to Stageworks' Channel District digs, where Innovocative is staging Jane Martin's 1993 play, a Pulitzer finalist that is as relevant in today's fraught climate as it ever was".

Innovocative Theatre's Keely & Du is an intense, powerful night of professional theatre and has received a Theatre Tampa Bay Recommendation!

Somewhere, a group ...is holding a young woman in a locked room, against her will.

They aren’t going to hurt her. They don’t want any ransom.

They just want to change her mind about her unwanted pregnancy.

That’s the premise behind Keely and Du, Jane Martin’s controversial drama on the continuing, contentious debate over abortion in America. Though it was written almost 25 years ago, current developments in a number of states including Kentucky, Alabama, Indiana and Alaska make this chilling script seem based on events of the present day.

One of two finalists for the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1994, Martin’s script comes down to a conversation between two women, both of whom have almost everything to lose in our country’s ongoing dispute over reproductive rights. Keely’s a young woman who believes she isn’t ready to have any child – and this one in particular. Du, an older woman, is a nurse who has been assigned to counsel – and monitor – her until she does.

In stark contrast to most plays on these issues, Martin’s deliberately evenhanded script doesn’t tilt the playing field in one direction or another. With little else to pass the time, both women in this psychological drama try to convince each other of their position. As the days pass, each passionately offers their most compelling and unassailable arguments. And as other members of the shadowy group increase the pressure on them, both women begin to question—and change—their own views.

Whatever our audiences’ thoughts are on these issues, they’ll be closely challenged before the end of this remarkably thought-provoking play. And, be sure to check out our promotional videos at:
