A heartbreaking reality. War crimes, not humanitarian disasters. Call them as such. #AleppoBleeding.

Beirut Madinati -
Thank you for Larissa Abou Harb and Bilal Al Ayoubi for translating my English article.
For the first time in 1400 years, the city of Aleppo did not hold Friday prayers yesterday. #AleppoBurning.
The city of Aleppo is burning as it witnesses one war crime after the other. Yesterday, regime forces shot a missile at a hospital, killing 27 people of which was Dr. Mohammad Maaz.
Dr. Maaz was the last pediatrician in the rebel-controlled part of the city. The hospital he worked at was run by Médecins Sans Frontières. Instead of saving his life, he tried to save as many children from the incubators as possible. He died a hero.
We are doctors, not martyr projects. We work at... hospitals, not battlegrounds.
We save lives, regardless of who those lives belong to, irrespective of green lines and battle sides. Is war now supposed to be waged in surgery theaters and pediatric incubators?
MSF reports having its hospitals attacked 106 times around the world in 2015 alone. Everyone is doing it: governments, rebels, armed groups.
The murder of people just because they exist, the targeting of hospitals just because they are, the killing of doctors just because they are doing their job is not a humanitarian disaster. It’s a war crime. Call it as such.
This house was saved because of Mona Hallak who is now running with Beirut Madinati -
It was going to be destroyed by the political establishment that is represented by Hariri's list.
The choice on May 8th is really very simple.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure and honor to attend a play called "Ana 3amel/ Ana 3amela" at the American University of Beirut (AUB), by the AUB Theater Initiative, one of the more interesting and captivating plays I've had the pleasure to watch in Lebanon.
The play invites you to see how it is to be a janitor through an orientation during which you walk around the AUB campus. Everything you hear was obtained from over 72 interviews from different janitors on campus who told their life stories, opened their hearts and souls to strangers.
From the janitors who believe they've done 4 degrees, each for every child they've gotten through university, to those who had to withstand insults from students who see them as nothing more than invisible people, the experience is eye opening and a must.
Elections season is here and Hariri's list for Beirut "the Bierte list" has been announced. They're fighting Beirut Madinati in the best way they know: sectarianism, hate and fear.
Dear Beirutis, Sunni and otherwise, you can vote for the garbage filling the streets, the smell that's been making you vomit for the past few weeks.
Or you can vote to those going to your door asking you: what do you need?
...The choice couldn't really be simpler. I hope you choose those who are good, not those who make you afraid of wanting better.
Tripoli's Fayha Choir is holding a fundraising conference tonight in Tripoli. They need your help to stay in action!
If you can attend, please do!
Hariri's list for the Municipal elections wants to "keep Beirut for its people."
I guess they had no problem in Beirut being more accepting of those who weren't "its people" when they wanted to send its garbage to other areas.
A question to ask: isn't Hariri from Saida? 😉
Omar Mohammed was a 17 year old Yemeni who was killed yesterday by terrorist extremists in his country. His fault? Being accused of atheism. Except he wasn't an atheist, he was just a young man who opposed their kind of religion.
He writes: "They accuse me of atheism! Oh you people, I see God in the flowers, and you see Him in the graveyards, that is the difference between me and you."
With his murder, the Arab world has lost a youth that promised a better future, that promis...ed hope that one day this region would amount to something again.
May his family find solace in him being remembered by millions of those who didn’t know him, his words propagated forevermore.
The prominent Lebanese band مشروع ليلى Mashrou' Leila have been banned from ever performing in Jordan because their music promotes messages of sexual liberation be it in gender or orientation.
In being banned, Mashrou' Leila are not only winners, they are triumphant. This is the biggest validation of their art possible: an art challenge the status quo so profoundly with what they do that they're shaking governments; governments that are afraid of their people and youth rising above what they know, what they've been brought up to believe and accept that diversity in the heart of their own culture is to be embraced not feared.
Today, Mashrou' Leila should be proud of the walls they've broken and of the boundaries they will break with every note they sing.
We had so much hope 11 years ago. And every bit of hope we've had for a better future was maimed, killed, burned and then killed again with each passing moment by a ruling establishment whose entire existence is mutually exclusive with the country's well-being.
Taylor Swift can't have enough of hummus. Lebanon's cuisine has officially made it! #TeamHummus #WeNeedToUpdateTheFlag.

This is Dima Al Wawi, a 12 year old Palestinian who was just released from Israeli jails after spending two months there.
Look at her eyes. Those are the eyes of a child who has lost hope, who has lost her purpose. Those are the eyes of a generation that only knows torment, injustice and a world that doesn't care about them having hope or a decent life in the first place.
Why was Dima in Israeli jail? Because she was "suspected" of carrying a knife. This got an Israeli milita...ry court to sentence her to jail.
Dima, I hope the sparkle returns to you one day.

Caricatures with messages like this are one of the reasons why this country will never amount to anything. Encourage people who can work to improve things to do so, don't bring them down. #BeirutMadinati.
#BeirutMadinati is running against a list that exists to show that "Saad el Hariri bimoun" not to make the lives of Beirutis better. Tfeh.
From Nadine Labaki to the founder of DONNER SANG COMPTER, the list of Beirut Madinati - بيروت مدينتي is a collection of people who give me hope that change is POSSIBLE.
They're movie directors, people with disabilities fighting for those with disability, singers, architects, doctors, engineers, urban planners, media personalities... and they all love their city and think things need to change.
I tried to find information about them and will update with more info as things unf...old.
Know their names. They're the hope to change things in Beirut.
