go to St Georges Day parade and festival 2015

When you watch the parade tommorow, my old buddy Alan will not be driving us as he sadly died last year, his closest friend who was like a brother to him has stepped in his shoes and will be driving us.... Watch for the Land Rover carrying John Bull and Winston Churchill, the driver an ex Para who is one of the most highly decorated soldiers in so called `peace time`, he was awarded the Military Medal for the Battle of Goose Green, where 'Lt Col H' Officer Commanding the Regi...ment won the Victoria Cross. Medal Group comprising: Military Medal (EIIR), 'L Cpl Para', British Empire Medal, (Military Division), , Campaign Service Medal, clasp 'Northern Ireland', 'Pte Para', South Atlantic Medal, with rosette, 'L Cpl Para', Gulf War Medal, clasp '6 Jan to 28th Feb 1991', 'Sgt S.A. xxxx Military Medal Para', Regular Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (EIIR), 'SSgt S.A. MM British Empire Medal Para', USA Bronze Star'. GC group mounted as worn ... Accompanied by Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Medal in case, US Medal of Merit in case with typed citation, US South West Asia Medal. He saw his fellow bruiser go down hit by a 50 Calibre round, without hesitation he went in and pulled him out. This is the man mentioned in the MM citation. Following the Falklands war he rose through the ranks and now with the rank of Colour Sergeant in 1990 he was selected for an exchange with the US Army and was posted to Fort Bragg, attached to the 82nd US Airborne Division, He some gained the respect of his US counterparts and was acting as a Platoon Sergeant with the 2/505th Recon Platoon, when orders came through for deployment of the Platoon to the Gulf, without hesitation he hopped on the transport plane and was deployed with his Recon unit. For his combat operational service he was awarded the US Bronze Star. and the British Army recognised his dedicated efforts with the award of the British Empire Medal as described in the recommendation. The lot contains a number of congratulation letters, including one from then Brigadier Mike Jackson, who reminds them of their joint service at Ballykinler many years before, during his first tour in Northern Ireland. Returning from the Gulf he remained with the 82nd until April 1992 when he returned to the Regiment and took up the duties of CQMS Headquarters Company, when you see so called celebs footballers and legends and call them such, compare their life and what they have done to a real heros...and then think again, even the PA system we are using was lent by an ex Falkands Combat Soldier....

"There is no land like England, Where'er the light of day be; There are no hearts like English hearts, Such hearts of oak as they be; There is no land like England, Where'er the light of day be: There are no men like Englishmen, So tall and bold as they be! And these will strike for England, And man and maid be free To foil and spoil the tyrant Beneath the greenwood tree." Lord Alfred Tennyson
