I was unsure what to expect at my first meet...wondering if I'd be the only pregnant one there! I needn't have worried, there were several of us being shown stretchy wraps and trying to practise them ...over our bumps!
I couldn't attend the next meet with my newborn (think it was sleep related...bit of a blur!) but was nervous about using my wrap without guidance- I emailed the lovely ladies a photo to check I was wearing him correctly and they got straight back to me with some pointers and reassurance. I've since been back to hire a baby carrier- it's great to be able to try them and see what's comfortable for you, especially as they're not cheap to buy! We're so lucky to have this service, thanks for all your help ladies :-)

As a total newbie to baby wearing I had no idea what to expect but with a teenie 5lb12 baby with reflux I was needing something to enable me to help her and still have hands free to be a mum to my 6yr... old. The ladies were really welcoming and super helpful, I am currently using one of the libraries stretchy wraps and I love it. My little lady settled every time she's in it and I can do everything still. Thank you I look forward to seeing you at the next one See More

Huge thank you to Sarah and the Team today It was my first time at the group (although Sarah had gone through using a stretchy wrap with me a couple of weeks ago) the group was buzzing and the welco...me was fantastic! I am a mum of six... My eldest is almost 20 and youngest is 8 weeks and I had never used a sling or carrier with any of them. Sarah had shown me the stretchy wrap previously and I have battled with confidence in using one correctly. Today I bit the bullet and went to group soooo glad I did! I got to try a different kind of wrap (which I felt wasn't the right one for me) so again I had a go at the Hana stretchy wrap, was shown how to do it, watched demos on it and had it checked over once I was wearing it and the comfort and closeness with my little lady is amazing. I loved it I hired it! I got home and had a play with it, carried my LG in it for a while, took it off, put it back on and popped her in it... and repeated this a few times feeling more and more confident each time I did it. By the time my eldest daughter got home I was oozing in confidence and showing her how to wrap her baby sister. I think it's safe to say that she will be coming along to a meet one day soon as she has also fallen in love with it.
Thanks again ladies just wish I would have had your group and support to do this with my older children X

I would like to thank the lovely Sarah for teaching my husband & I how to use the stretchy wrap. I wore it yesterday for the first time with my new baby daughter Amelia and just love it . It's so comf...ortable for both of us and it's great to have both hands free to entertain our dog! Sarah is extremely knowledgeable & so lovely, she made my husband and I feel very ease whilst trying on the sling & learning about baby carrying. I would highly recommend the st.ives sling library. 5*'s from the Reddan family See More

Hi, I am currently trialling an ergo adapt sling which I hired last month from the group! I just wanted to say how much I love it and I want to thank Gemz for helping me to get the right fit for my li...ttle one who is 8 months. I love the fact that the sling has a cross over back and an added lumbar support. My little one loves it as he can easily look out and be nosey or happily fall asleep when needed. The other benefit of the sling is that as he grows the seat width can be changed to accommodate his size and so it makes sure that his hips fit well at all times! Thanks to everyone for their help - including the lovely cup of tea I had :-) See More

A great service, I've been using a stretchy wrap from the sling library with my now 3 month old and it's been so helpful getting him off to sleep. We were shown how to tie the wrap properly which for ...me was key in getting the most out of it. Thank you! See More

Found all the staff very friendly and helpful. On my first visit I went along knowing very little about babywearing but my daughter had reflux and didn't like laying flat so thought I'd give it a try.... I was extremely happy leaving with a stretchy wrap that made life easier whilst out shopping, and at home I could actually jobs done. Now my daughter is 4 months and I'm currently hiring a soft buckle carrier which we both love too. I like that they have a wide variety of carriers you can try out and for that reason I'm sure I will use again as my daughter grows and her needs change. See More

After a couple of sling meets and three hires I finally decided that the connecta was the right fit for my little one. You guys were a great source of help and advice as I only started wearing my firs...t when he was much older. Huge thank you also for your advice and support on tandem babywearing, I can't wait to get out with the two of them now :) See More

Unfortunately I have never made it to a meet.
But have learnt loads from the team and reading these pages. Discovered all about ergonomics and correct positioning. Helped me choose a Tula as my first ...carrier and will definitely be trying a stretchy if I have another baby.
Have recommended friends to join this group and love that there is support locally.

The staff are really helpful and knowledgeable. I hired a stretchie as I have a 7 week old and a nearly three year old... It changed my life! I wish I'd had it from the day my baby girl was born. The... day we picked it up I was able to do baking with my little boy which had just not been possible. I find it much easier than using a pram too, hands are free and much less effort! I have a bad back from pregnancy and I don't find the sling effects it at all, if anything it's helping in strengthening my back muscles. Would highly recommend this great service :) See More

I didn't really know what to expect before I turned up to the February slingmeet... but it was great! Everyone was very friendly and helpful. There are lots of different carriers / wraps / ring slin...gs that you can have a look at, try out, and hire if you wish, and there are several advisers on hand to talk you through the differences and give advise on whatever you need at the time. If you are interested in something specific it is worth contacting them ahead of time to make sure it is likely to be available on the day. I will definitely be returning, thank you all so much :-) See More

I attended the St.Ives Sling Library when I wanted to explore different options for babywearing my little boy. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. They have so many different options to try and you ...can ask as many questions as you like and also try each sling until you feel confident before hiring. To top it all you also get a cuppa and a piece of cake, perfect. It helped both myself and my husband to make the perfect choice for us when we went on to buy a sling and we all enjoy baby wearing. Thank you to all you lovely ladies. See More

Such friendly, helpful, knowledgeable ladies that run this meeting purely to help local mamas and spread the babywearing love!
It's an amazing opportunity to not only try a new sling or even a new typ...e of carry, but they are also on hand to help with your own carrier too. The cake is always yummy too!! Nice to go along for a social and meet other like minded parents too. See you next month and thankyou to you all See More

Such a great resource and now the only sling library in Cornwall I believe. Great selection of slings and very friendly, knowledgeable and passionate babywearing support staff. After months of trying ...and failing to find a comfortable sling for me and my baby I had success with a sling I rented from this library, I now love wearing my baby and can do it all day long with no pain! Can't thank you enough! See More

If you would prefer to use a buckled carrier for your newborn over a stretchy wrap, here is some useful info on the ones suitable for smaller babies and how they compare.

Newborn-suitable buckle carriers - one of the most often talked-about sling topics. Whether you like to use buckles with a newborn or not, it's fair to say tha...t they do (quite rightly) hold an appeal for many parents, and in the last few years there have been several new carriers produced which are really rather excellent. Given the huge choice of newborn buckle carriers, we've come up with this helpful infographic to let you see the relevant features of each, to help you make an informed choice.

Last week I said my daughter will never go up...now she won't get down. Just when you think your carrying days are over...!!

My husband giggles at me when I take Babywearing selfies, he thinks I take too many, but with 'ups' being quite seldom now I never know when it's going to be my last time. I'm going to keep taking those selfies just in case.

What did you baby wear today?

This is a lovely post that shows just how long you can use your caboo for! You might not use it for long periods of time as they get bigger, but for quick ups it's still great!

Carry My Baby

We were just having a little play with the @closeparent #Caboo anniversary edition cotton blend to see what it's like for a 15 month old.

It's still a handy pop...pable carrier at any age, just adjust well, spread fabric to kneepits and up to armpits.

I liked flipping the shoulders for comfort and the outside layer focused in more support around the seat and bringing her weight around my torso.

How long did you use your Caboo?

Stretchy Wraps can be very useful in those first days, weeks and months as you can wrap it on you, and leave it on. As long as you you want, or need. Wrap it,... tie it, and you can welcome baby in and take baby out, without retying or readjusting. In that initial period after your baby is born (known as the 4th trimester), this can be wonderful - you know where the sling is, you know it's on and you know that baby is close, secure and connected whilst snuggled in there.

Adjusting as a family and adapting to the changes, can be challenging. A stretchy wrap (any sling really) can make this transition simpler - babies are calmed when next to you, they hear your heartbeat, smell you, feel you. And it's the same for you - you feel them, hear them, smell them. It all makes sense. Our bodies understand. They produce oxytocin. This has positive effects on baby and mother (all 3 aspects - your mental health, emotional and physical well-being). It makes sense.
