Friends of Saint John's International School, BangkokHigh School in Bangkok, Thailand
Spectacular and terrifying sight. What a geography class we could have had.
There was once a school that taught its students to never give up. This is an amazing outcome in the face of immense adversities. Never. Give. Up.
"When we informed her that she is the winner of the Royal award, she cried and cried“.
Imagine winning a national award for #literature and not being able to co...llect your award because you are in #prison where you wrote your work. Now imagine winning with only a primary school education.
Here is a special preview of a #ucanews Christmas story of hope for our Facebook audience:
20 Dec. 2017
The winner of the 1st Eugénie Memorial Literary Award organized by the National Office for Catholic Social Communications in #Bangkok is a Buddhist poet who submitted her work from her prison cell.
37 year-old Vassana Udmuengpia is a prisoner in Si Kiew District of Khorat province about 300 km northeast of Bangkok. She and her husband were found guilty of #drugtrafficking with intent to distribute and sell and sentenced to life in prison. Her husband, a foreigner, escaped the arrest.
Vassana was not allowed out of prison to collect the award which was collected for her by her prison supervisor.
Fr. Anucha Chaiyadej, Secretary General of the National Office for Catholic Social Communications, told the audience that this is not just another literary award in Thailand, the committee focused not only on the beauty of the language and the word choice but also the spirituality which is all about the meaning of our life.

Can't help but wonder if this will be #PopeFrancis' last visit to Asia?
Sometimes, somethings don't have to be far away to be remote #popeheartofasia
When #PopeFrancis lands in Myanmar at 1:30pm local time today, he will not have travelled the greatest distance in miles, but he will be arriving at the very fringes of the Catholic Church #popeheartofasia https://www.ucanews.com/…/pope-francis-trekking-his-w…/80870
#PopeFrancis' historical visit to Myanmar and Bangladesh at the end of November will be covered in detail by #ucanews What do you think Holy Father will be able to achieve on his trip armed with "only" hope and love? #popeheartofasia
Thai Catholics warmly remember their beloved King Bhumibol Adulyadej as protector of all religions in the kingdom, for His Majesty's contribution to society and... people's welfare, particularly in impoverished remote areas. King Bhumibol visited St. Pope John XXIII at the Vatican in 1960 where His Majesty invited the Holy Father to visit Thailand. The visit of St. Pope John Paul II in 1984 was in large part a fulfillment of that invitation. UCANEWS joins the Thai community in paying tribute and remembering their great king.

Having said our goodbyes to the school that we love and a place where so many friendships were made, the Facebook pages of the school and our alumni community have now been merged. This will enable our community to continue to share not only memories of the past but also to celebrate the achievements of our community in the future.
Please continue to follow our page for news of what our students and staff go on to do after their lives at SJIS. We have no doubt t...hat much have been and will be achieved and that we have a lot more yet to look forward to from our community.
Lastly, please note that this page is *not* maintained by staff at St. John's Group or Salan Development. We would be grateful if you would direct relevant enquiries to those entities directly.
Thank you in advance for your continued support. And remember - never give up.
With best wishes for the future,
The Flying Penguin.
