Tell people what you think

I've been attending this church with my family since I was 8 years old. Coming back now and then is reassuring. Amazing, beautiful music. I empathize with the comment that people could be more welc...oming - sometimes things feel a little stiff, but maybe that's just an Episcopal thing? For example in the hall gathering after the services, could someone not walk around and say hello, especially to people sitting alone? See More

I received so much benefit from the past services similar to what you celebrated today at 3pm. Blessings to you for continuing one of the joys of being part of St. Johns. Nothing like praying with a p...et ! And having their life blessed by an expert. See More

Although I am not especially religious, I spend much time at the beautiful Cathedral of St John listening to many of the best musical performances in New Mexico.

The newly refurbished and expanded ...Reuter op. 2210 at the Cathedral of St. John's is an exceptional instrument. At 102 stops, 65 ranks, and 3,800 pipes, it is the largest pipe organ in New Mexico. More importantly, however, it is an extremely varied and exquisitely balanced instrument, perfectly suited to the warm acoustics of John Gaw Meems great sanctuary. Capable of the softest purr with its celestes and vox humana, or the mightiest roar from its battery of trumpets, the new organ continually thrills and inspires.

The choirs, under the highly capable direction of Maxine Thevenot (Director of Music), are among the best in this state.

Here is an example of a recent concert:
Canto de las Estrellas: A concert celebrating the music of Enrique Granados (1867-1916)
Works of Granados along with two pieces by New Mexican composer John Donald Robb.
Galaxies and Stars Concert at 7:00pm**
Douglas Riva, internationally acclaimed pianist
Michael Shu, violin
Kevin Vigneau, oboe
Edmund Connolly, organ, The Cathedral Choir
Las Cantantes - UNM Women's ensemble
Polyphony: Voices of New Mexico
Maxine Thévenot, conductor.

The folks here, from Dean Mark Goodman to the helpful support staff, are very friendly -- real people.

All in all, The Cathedral of St John provides both sacred and secular experiences that you need to take advantage of. Your life will be better for it.

A service of great beauty, with astounding music from the Cathedral Choir and organist. The preaching centers on the unconditional love of God, and the people exude a natural warmth and hospitality ...to all who enter. An oasis for those who are sensitive to beauty and a spirituality of love. We will return! See More

It's a traditional Episcopal parish. The clergy and parishioners are very welcoming. They have several different activities going on. Attend one of Elaine Wilson's Bible studies. She is well versed an...d educated in spirituality. There are programs for youth and teens and families run by Fr Sean. And I'm Catholic. See More

As a former resident of Albuquerque, and a Christian, I was very disappointed to hear that you decided to cancel your invitation to Sabeel. After my visit to Bethlehem last year, there is no doubt th...at the Christians of Palestine need the support of American Christians. Why on earth would you listen to Rabbi Flicker, who is simply wrong and displaying his prejudice against Palestinian Christians because they are Arabic, and he may even hold a secrect prejudice against all Christians? So few churches, including yours, have the spiritual courage to live completely a Christ-like life. No way would Christ have shut the doors on Palestine's suffering and injustice.

Written for choir and organ, the haunting melodies and lush harmonies are such to leave a lasting impression on all in attendance. The composer will be making the pilgrimage from London to work with our Cathedral Choirs and will also be the guest speaker at the Dean's Forum following the 11:00am service. No tickets required. Based on research of original music sung by incarcerated inmates in Holocaust concentration camps, this 40-minute cantata is an emotional, musical journey through one of the bleakest episodes in human history. Working from translations of original Polish materials found in the archives of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. and starting with just a single line of melody, McCullough has fashioned a haunting choral tribute to the 6 million Jews who w...ere systematically persecuted and murdered as well as to the millions of other individuals the Nazi Party classified as “undesirables,” including Poles, Romanian gypsies, homosexuals, transsexuals, political opponents, religious dissidents, the mentally ill and the physically disabled.

This 1 hour concert features the artists of Polyphony: Voices of New Mexico along with cellist, Elizabeth Purvis and pianist/conductor, Maxine Thevenot.
