St. John's Lutheran Church Sunday School is hosting the 1ST ANNUAL ALMSGIVING EVENT!
WHAT: 1st Annual Almsgiving Event for St. John’s (Care Cases + Soup lunch!)
WHO: all members of St. John’s + friends + neighbors
WHEN: Sunday, March 18 after 10am service ...
WHERE: downstairs in the Fellowship room
WHY: There is a huge need in the Foster Community in the Rome-Utica area. We are needing items donated (see list below) to build CARE CASES- a backpack or other bag filled with items a foster child would need or want. This way when they arrive at a foster home, typically without anything or at most with a garbage bag of items, they receive a back pack just for them! In addition to the items below, we will need note-card writers, so a loving, handwritten note from St. John’s can be included in each bag we pack.
While we pack bags and write notes, we can eat a yummy lunch of an assortment of homemade soups, rolls and desserts!
Items can be dropped off at the church anytime or just brought on the 18th. They will be stored in the first Sunday School classroom on the left, across from the Superintendent’s office.
If you have any questions, please call the church office: 315-336-8090. ‘Care Cases’ is on Facebook too. 'Friend' them!
Care Cases is a ministry with the goal of providing suitcases filled with care and comfort items to local children placed in foster care. 100% of the donated proceeds, whether they be monetary or items for the cases have been and will continue to be given to children in need.
WHAT WE NEED:
Suit Cases/Duffle Bags/ Backpacks
Small Stuffed Animals
Be creative, we don’t discriminate!
COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS: (?s & answers from FB page)
Where can I bring my items?
You can request to become a friend of the Facebook Care Cases page and coordinate with me (Brittany Emery) this way or you can bring your items to church and I can come and collect them from there.
What age Groups should bags be made for?
These bags will be assembled and donated to children ranging from ages 0-18 years old that are placed in the foster care system.
Do I assemble a completed bag or donate individual items?
You can purchase individual items for the bags or you can donate completed bags, it’s entirely up to you! Any and all donations are very much appreciated
Can I donate used items?
We are unable to accept gifts that are not brand new due to regulations of The House of the Good Shepherd where we donate the bags.
FREE! St. John's Lutheran Church (Chestnut St, Rome) has 2 upright pianos for FREE! Yes, they would need tuning and you would need a truck and folks to get it into your house. However, we could find some 'strapping men' to help you get it out of the church and into your truck. Call the church if interested: 315-336-8090
Family friendly event! Popcorn, snacks, soda and water provided! Donation basket is near the snacks, but not at all required. All money donated is used to cover the cost of the movie license and cost of the snacks. Movie nights are the 2nd Friday of every month during the school year.
Very fun, informative and delicious event! The kids really enjoyed their crafts and games and the adults really enjoyed the food and beer tasting! The poster boards of information will be set up in the Narthex between now and Christmas, so you can read them again during coffee hour on Sunday mornings.
The study group will meet downstairs in the Youth Room on Tuesdays during Lent. Please bring your own copy of "The Fire & the Staff" by Preus. Copies of the book can be ordered from Amazon.com, cph.org, Abebooks.com and other online used bookstores.
Present attendees have children ranging in age from 4-12. The kids play in the large playroom down the hall, by themselves without adult supervision. If you believe your child is old enough to 'play well with others' - they are more than welcome!!
