You have won this! Thank you to everyone who has contributed in whatever means possible to achieve our bodily autonomy. To our sisters in the North, our movement continues and we will aid you all the way. To our migrant and ethnic minority comrades, we see you and we stand with you. To our trans and non-binary siblings, we are with you and we will continue.
Just over a year ago, we had one demand.
And now we have less than a week to go. Please summon all your strength and courage in this next week and keep fighting. Do it for yourself and your loved ones and all of our comrades who fought so hard for so long to get us here.
Irene.
Presente!
Irene took this photo back in March 2017. It was around this time that she was coming to the end of what was a gruelling chemotherapy session. As sick as she ...was, she got out of her bed, slapped on some make up, made her sign and took this selfie to show her support to all the other women of Ireland who were looking for change. This is just another example of the incredibility strong person Irene was. Irene passed away before she ever had a chance to hear that we would as country have an opportunity to cast our vote on this very important topic.
Many a time Irene and I spoke about repealing the 8th. But we rarely spoke about the issue’s around abortion. Women are having abortions today and will continue to do so after the 25th May, the main difference will be do we keep on sending our women abroad or can we bring them home, we accepted that early on which is why this vote for us was all about Women’s Rights, a Woman’s right to have full control and the final say on what happens to her body but most importantly be listened to and obeyed. This vote is primarily about extending Women’s rights within our Healthcare System. If we’re ever going to achieve a healthcare system that puts the safety of our women first than repealing the 8th is a must In order to take us to the next step on this ladder.
There are very strong opinions for and against this referendum. I didn’t put this post up to try and convince people on the NO side to vote YES, I believe that if your opinion is no then you are perfectly entitled to that and casting your vote is what you need to do. I posted this for 2 reasons, firstly, to give Irene her voice in this referendum which was very important to her and secondly for those that haven’t made their minds up yet and are still on the fence on this to give them a different perspective to think about. #VoteYes #Together4Yes
