#saaldigital

Having a jet lag is sometimes good, especially when you wake up at 4am in the morning and have a night sky like this:

Aoraki/Mt. Cook with the partly frozen Hooker Glacier Lake in front. Unfortunately a sunset without clouds - but hey, the nature looks still awesome, doesn't it!

The Godley Valley on the end of Lake Tekapo where the big Lake gets its water from. I love to see the Southern Alps covered in snow like this!

Hidden in the mountains of the Fiordland National Park you will find this beautiful alpine lake.

The Marian Creek on the way to Lake Marian, located in the Fiordland National Park on New Zealand's South Island. I had much luck with the weather that day and also with the low sun which gave me that incredible light.

Maybe one of the most photographed trees in the world or definitely in New Zealand - the lone tree on the shoreline of Lake Wanaka. Was a great sunrise that cold winterday!

I miss the stars when I look in the sky over Hamburg, which is in most of the parts really bright because of the lights of the harbor.
The complete opposite is New Zealand's South Island, especially the region around Mt. Cook - the Mackenzie Basin. On this photo you see a spot much more south, at the boarder of the Fiordland National Park, exactly at the beginning of the Routeburn Track at Glenorchy site. It was awesome to see all the stars, the clouds of the Milky Way and so many satellites...

If you ask me about my favorite place in New Zealand, I don't have to think about that long: it's Lake Wanaka with its stunning landscape around. I took this "selfie" with a tripod and a tele lens - I get wanderlust when I look at it...

On my last journey to the South Island I had much luck with the weather which was most of the time perfect for winter conditions. Sunny days with almost no wind in every region - in every region? No, of course not at the Nugget Point! Even if it looks sunny on the photo it was really rainy there and with a wind which made it almost impossible to shoot some long exposures at daylight. I find a spot behind the lighthouse which was ok for that and so I took this photo

Have a great weekend everyone!
This sunrise was shot at the famous beach next to Hampden on New Zealand's South Island. Here you can also find the Moeraki Boulders.

This mountain formation is called Turret Range. Around the corner I found my final destination on that day - the hanging icefall of Mt. Earnslaw. To this place it was a journey of 4 hours through an ice cold river and through the rain forest with lots of fallen trees and waterfalls on the way. I would call this track definitely "Into the Wild" because sometimes it was very scary and I was completely lost in the wilderness of New Zealand.

This scene was shot at the shoreline of Lake Tekapo on a cold and cloud free winter evening in August. Unfortunately my car was 2km away, so it was a little adventure to went back in the darkness.
I love the crystal-clear water of this lake and the shiny turquoise color when the sun is up.

The Matukituki Valley in the Mount Aspiring National Park on New Zealand's South Island is one of my favorite spots when you're looking for a day trip out of Wanaka. In this valley you also find the famous Rob Roy Glacier.
Have some of you already done some walks in this area?

One of my favourite shots this year - the landscape around Lake Wanaka seen from Roy's Peak.
