As someone who lived in the Pittsburgh area for almost three years. I find all this posting about how deplorable the Squirrel Hill store is, to very unsettling. I visited the store very frequently and... what I have to say is that in most cases it is the customer who is extremely rude to the employee behind the counter. Now I'm not saying the employee is blameless, I've seen my fair share of rude, but in a way the employee is a subject of adapting to their environment. When angry patrons come into the store and instantly compare it to something like Learning Express it tends to irritate the people who are trying to give a good name to this store. Also, if the patron has that much time to complain about it the moment they walk into the store then they should go to other place instead. Regarding the bathroom policy, I asked once about it and the employees told me that it was to protect the stock and that they have had something stolen from a patron who used the bathroom. Also my biggest problem with some of the reviews is that people are deeming the entire store terrible because of an employee that they probably didn't even report or talk to another employee about! The store from what I've seen is friendly and open to conversation with other patrons.
So once again. I find it deplorable that someone is trying to tear down a store that has been rather enjoyable.

The Squirrel Hill location could not be in a nicer spot and it is so engaging with a trampoline out front for kids to play on and Lego displays in the window. Unfortunately that is the only nice part.... While the toys are lovely the staff is rude and unhelpful. They do not want children touching things which is unrealistic in a toy store. They were scowling at all the children. And when I asked for assistance in finding something the men working there rolled their eyes and let me know my question was interrupting their more important conversation. Not worth coming back. Save your money and go anywhere else. See More

Pretty disgusting when the employees have to try to give their place of work such high reviews in order to balance the negative reviews which are the truth of how poorly treated the customers are who ...go to the store. Do not shop here! Go to Learning Express instead! There's one at Bakery Square and one in the South Hills. See More

The store itself can have some shortcomings, but the employees are very helpful and do their best to help you find what you're looking for. The Shadyside store having a Pokemon league is a great place... to meet people with similar interests, and the Squirrel Hill store is similar for Magic: The Gathering. Definitely worth visiting if you're in the area! See More

Overheard staff in the Squirrel Hill location disparaging other customers while in the store. Not classy. Have also had multiple friends with negative interactions with staff. Definitely taking my mon...ey elsewhere, like the Learning Express in Bakery Square. See More

I've been to this store literally 1 billion times and every time I've gotten the best service! I'm talking foot rubs, back massages, you name it. As an avid bird watcher I also enjoy this stores prime... location for watching Common Yellowthroat as they frolic in their natural habitat. See More
