Awesome trail! Congrats, Mississippi. I hope someday Jackson, Tennessee and West Tennessee will get a rail trail like this to promote health equity.

North end of the Trail is a little more than an hour from my home. This was my third time to ride the complete trail and my first time on a recumbent trike. Because the Trail is so flat, it was a litt...le more enjoyable on a bike. Beautiful, well kept, and well monitored. See More

I love riding my bike at Tanglefoot. I am a novice rider and I love not having to worry about cars or dogs! The trail is relatively flat, well-maintained. I usually ride out from Pontotoc and the town...speople are very welcoming and friendly. Also, there is a great restaurant in Pontotoc, Boondocks Grill! Great food and service. See More

Drove down from TN a couple weekends ago and rode the trail for the second time. Great trail and thoroughly enjoyed it. Was happy to see the tent and porta johns in Houston, though a bench or somethin...g to sit on would have been welcomed also. And an occasional bench along the trail would be helpful also, as there are on other trails I've ridden (The Cardinal Greenway trail in Indiana has an abundance of them). The whistle stops are GREAT - better than on some other trails (Cardinal Greenway) - but sometimes you might need to take a break between them. But my biggest criticism is the lack of mileage information at the whistle stops. Assuming permanent mileage info/maps are going to be installed at some point, it's hard to understand why mileage info isn't simply printed off the website (like I did) and tacked onto each of the whistle stops as a temporary measure. I had a couple of conversations about this with other riders who were asking me about mileage to the next town and who also didn't understand why no information was posted. This is the only negative about the otherwise great and very welcome whistle stops. See More

Loved the Trail!! Not a big fan of wooden bridges, but the trail was still very awesome! The paths were smooth for the most part. I think one area may have been hit by a storm and there were sticks... on the trail, but that lasted maybe a mile or two.. I greatly appreciated the stop areas along the trail, including the ones with restrooms and water fountains. Job well done! See More

Loved the trail! New Albsny is a fun place to start and finish. There is a grocery store/gas station around the 20 mile marker. The owner made a nice rest area next door for the bikers and runners. I ...wish Houston had a more direct route to town. Hard to find places to est. we did have a nice lunch at the Tea Shop! I loved the whistle stops and the trail was really shady. See More

If you haven't had "trail time" yet,,, you'll be amazed at the sensations that come in just the first 25 feet. To drink in the South, to leave the burdens of the day at the trails edge, to breath deep... and begin to press back your borders, to become better. The trail awaits. See More

Great trail for a scenic ride. We rode 15 miles south from New Albany and then back. There were many crossings with some busy roads. Be careful of cars not stopping at crossings. There are good points along the way. Great trail and we will ride again. See More

skaters beware: even with outdoor wheels the sheer amount of gravel, sticks, broken glass, and other random crap strewn on the trail makes for a very unpleasant skate.

I thoroughly enjoyed my ride from New Albany to Houston and back on the Tanglefoot Trail. Seven of us from the Memphis Hightailers came and had an incredible day riding the entire trail. We'll spread ...the word and you're sure to get more visitors from our bike club and other Memphis cyclists! See More

We have cycled and run on bike paths all over the country, and this trail is really nicely done! Pontotoc and the towns along the trail are very fortunate to have such a great place to exercise and enjoy.

AWESOME! Have done the full length twice. Grab a cone at the "Whistle Stop Ice Cream Shop" in downtown Houlka just off the trail, a burger in Algoma, a coffee in New Albany or a beer at Austin's in Pontotoc.

An awesome trail for riding the bike. People are always friendly and helpful. The sheriffs doing their rounds making sure everything is secure, the Whistle Stops are clean, and the scenery is beautifu...l. The first Tour de Life was a huge success! Thanks for the excellent ride, looking forward to next year. It was really neat making the decision to add the route with the hills. Enjoyed making the street connections with the trail. Again, thanks for being polite and respectful to all cyclists that ride the Tanglefoot Trails. See More

5 Great Hiking Trails in Mississippi

It's here - that time of year when we have unseasonably warm days one week and below freezing the next!
PLEASE NOTICE extended weather conditions prior to riding the trail. IF temps have been below freezing, it's quite possible you could find the WhistleStop restrooms closed. Our trail maintenance crew will reopen them as soon as temperatures allow AND as soon as they can make the rounds to do so. We just want you to be aware of possibilities this time of year.
Thanks for your understanding during the next few months.
Be prepared and be safe!
