These occasions seem to be far too often. It is our sad duty to tell our TG&Y friends of the passing of another of our family. Allen Greeson has passed away. Here is his obituary: http://legacy.newsok.com/obituaries/oklahoman/obituary.aspx…
(Jim Kettler here) When I was a child, we went every Saturday to a Humpty Dumpty grocery store and while my folks were shopping there, we kids went to the TG&Y "Dime Store" next door. At that time, it was still a true variety store, with a candy and nut counter, fabric by the yard, all kinds of toys, trinkets, etc. and a manager that you knew by sight. Mr. Lovely was manager back then and I later worked with his son, Lloyd when I went to work in the HQ office.
I loved the hot cashews best, but could only afford the hot redskin peanuts most of the time. Remember those? I think I must have built a couple dozen of the model cars they sold back then. What do you remember from the "Dime Store" days?
Many of the people who worked at the headquarters office in Oklahoma City first worked out in the stores. Did you work in a store? Did you work in the office? How about a warehouse? Truck driver?
This only applies to those who continued employment with McCrory after TG&Y. McCrory retirement was previously handled by Samsonite but as of March 1, 2017 is being managed by Prudential. The website has been updated.
It seems that far too often now we are reporting the passing of a colleague. Such is the case today. Donald G. Parker passed away on May 18, 2017. His memorial services will be May 22, 2017, at New Hope Methodist Church in OKC. Don was a buyer for the TG&Y Stores Co. for many years and a cherished friend.
Sad news today. Leota Bishop, former secretary for the Traffic Department of TG&Y Stores Co. has passed away. Here is her obituary: https://matthewsfuneralhome.com/leota-may-bishop/
