“The study, published in Nature, was conducted by Professor Luciano Floridi, Professor of Philosophy and Ethics of Information and Director of the Digital Ethics Lab, and Carl Öhman, a postdoctoral researcher at OII, advises that online remains should be viewed in the same way as the physical human body, and treated with care and respect rather than manipulated for commercial gain.”

"‘Tearleading’ – the process of publicly sharing condolences after someone famous has died – has become an internet phenomenon. It’s made grief trendy and has digitised the only one true certainty in life: death."

It’s one of the more blood-curdling things about Facebook – the social media death notice. You know the score: the recently deceased star of Top of the Pops, sitcom or stage is commemorated by way of a YouTube video and a deluge of weepy RIPs and “part of my life” eulogies, a phenomenon deri...

I have two new book projects in the works. One is still several months out, but I'm excited to announce the smaller one is now available for purchase.

Seemingly... too many times, I've heard from people who have lost loved ones and were unsure how to handle their digital assets. Your Digital Afterlife is still relevant generally, but its advice is too dense and now too dated for those in a moment of need.

With that background, allow me to share my newest publication, a 36-page guidebook called 10 Simple Steps to Get Your Digital Life In Order.

I'll be keeping this up-to-date and hopefully providing bulk orders to organizations whose constituents may benefit.

Excited to offer this 8/15 workshop in Research Triangle Park for My Last Soundtrack.

Confronting end of life issues is challenging for everyone. Compassionate caregivers and informed family members are key when addressing matters of mortality. But what if there were also ways to leverage technology to give those caregivers more effective tools, support those family members in naviga...

LastPass is a great solution for managing your passwords and passing them along when the time comes. It's an ideal tool for implementing our advice in Your Digital Afterlife.

I have a confession to make. Despite advocating password management applications like LastPass and SecureSafe, I’ve never been a bona fide user myself. At the encouragement of my virtual assistant, I decided to take the plunge and set up LastPass. Tweet

We updated numbers originally calculated by our friends at Entrustet (acquired by SecureSafe) and found 972,000 U.S. Facebook users will die in 2016.

In 2010 my friends Nathan Lustig and Jesse Davis (founders of Entrustet, which was later acquired by SecureSafe) used data from Facebook and the Centers for Disease Control to estimate the number of Facebook users who would pass away in 2010.
