Buy your signed copies at www.annajohnsonmusic.com I wrote “Thief” on a rainy afternoon when I was feeling a bit discouraged. The baby was sleeping, the clouds were heavy, and my heart felt a little heavy, too. I was overwhelmed and bought into the lie that I was hopeless in that moment. It’s crazy how our minds and emotions can feed us lies, isn’t it? Well, I sat down with my guitar and realized … wait a second … I LOVE the rain! I love rumbly, stormy, calm days. I love this season of life where, though it’s harder to pursue some of my passions, I get to be a mother to a precious little girl who needs me! I get to be home. I get to make music. I get to make art (even if it’s mostly just for me to enjoy). I have all I really need, and I LIKE the rain! I decided, in that still, gray moment on our guest bed that, well, I wasn’t going to let anything bring me down. I determined I would cherish that quiet time and make the most of it rather than being sad. I wrote the song, “Thief”, to uplift myself, but also to inspire and encourage others not to let doubts and fears, rainstorms and hard seasons get in the way of their hopes, dreams, and calling. Do what you’re made to do WITHOUT fear and doubt. : ) A lot of my new album, “Here”, was written about themes of hope and love, adventure and looking forward.
