This shit we're don't seem to that We watch inability to be able to work with Congress and both side to the other changing the boom and things like it's just one more season in this long running reality and that's not what should you so I'm here. d Hybrid find out what they think stated I will, I will be recommending whole new uh. I mean uh yeah that's already five who will keep you this man will be able to reflect what used again here. Social media and the press and the people here. That uh. I can't think The better representative for our community and although and I welcome today, perhaps you have a few thoughts, are observations as you get ready for year trip to Washington dc. This weekend. Uh um. Thank you appreciate it. Um thanks everyone and my name is on this. All I know um I'm a doctor via um came to the United States at about six years old and this is a it's, a very to Very important, very difficult time right now for I just dreamers for, for the immigrant community, uh we find ourselves um lindo uh which we don't know what's gonna happen and which this administration and leadership in Congress doesn't understand. The humanity behind this um and simply playing political games with the lives that you know a hundred thousand plus custom cities uh was overall around almost two million dreamers plus the lives of always told me um a document families I can show you so much and have been here for so long and are part of the society. Um and for me it's uh it's uh it's it's not a big to be able to represent um state of being um, because it this is a form of another form of fighting for us, not from that. We can resist this administration and the attacks on our community um when doctor was sending it was such a huge below for us. We gave We follow all the rules we gave. I mean the government or trust we trust the government to do right by us and our families and our dreams and they took that all away from us and we know what's gonna happen and, as much as I like as a respect. This is an as also is the fact that I have to go and listen to the very people that put my life in the limo. This is a visit it's a very simplistic form that we fight and that we resist, because the time is now to active, passed the clean dramatic bill and we can't wait anymore this hundred and 22 ducky For recipes that we status everyday and these are real life, real Americans real oregonian's like myself, we grew up here. We went to school. I grew up in woodburn. I did everything just like any other American oregonian child. I'm I am in America. I'm in or going um and I'm fighting for my right to be here um that's always that's always want that so we're asking for so we needed to clean Green bill to be passed yeah I think I was headed clearly and eloquently. Um and so many of the families that were kinda appear include many who are American citizens since it's it is inter related of and we were talking it's also the people who work with them who employ them. They are part of the fabric of our community and get a cookie mentioned in terms of, I can, with your parents right uh this is gonna challenge uh Man that uh very difficult for the someone not yet 25 years and you're too soon. Yeah that's that's amazing. Wanted to mention all matter. I mean we're, not just our own. My your pictures there's, streamers work, doctors or lawyers or teachers are teaching. Your kids. These are the people that are being affected as well as not just a life it's, not just like our lives, everything else we are part of the fabric that what makes this country what it is what you know what has been that's. How this country was built it's not those those individual people that we talk About Steve being tired uh American society, great any questions oh, a L, do solano as a well a enough okay. What's the difference Yeah so yeah I work for and that nonprofit Organization um we help advocacy work. Um. We want to disseminate health disparities and improve health care access and outcomes. Months, low income, latino communities and overall a hundred under his undeserved communities across the state. Um. When we doing to policy work um the kind of your advocacy director, um and with with their education and average, you are the, if and then tell me a little about your Yeah here too, yeah yeah alright so you where We came in 19 99 first time um. I have a older brothers, two years old and a younger sister both the math on their American citizen. Children. Here both of them also Um and it's only a snow. You have about two years ago. My my uh, my mom I do back to Mexico um, which we can take care of my sick crown Associated with this racist danger with children and watching your grandchildren grow depression every remember my my my sister's son, my sister's was pregnant when, when she left and sure to make that choice to go to every major love. One or stay up to watch will help you to your daughter, your only daughter through pregnancy and labour by You'll, I will take care of your mom about here go my my dad also win a follow Is there a very are family that's one of the many different. You know. We have to me and all the families have to make also in a way it's kinda fortunate that know my Prince made a decision and they weren't taking for me exactly like other families, happen by protection taxes of administration, but it's still the same thing is still family and the separated Good boy Oh, that's a different 10 12 different proposals me of came out um the talk around your gonna around because he's missing something you tomorrow and it's you just can't quite on the same trust. Anything that says that leadership says there are no to me switch from one day to the They're only but they think should be don't know what they're gonna do. I mean just a couple weeks ago. I mean he's the one that wasn't the problem is when the ended so click with stop and then with the following week, he says a three which is important the next fay yes, but not really and just everything changes and it's just it's kind of exhausting there's, so much uh work that each of the pipe or call people all the dreamers. We have our own lines like I have my job here is hard to keep track of that we're happening. We fighting battles here in oregon as far as um Having health in everything protected, interstate of God, this is hard to track everything. I just know that these people are just playing this thurs playing games Uh I'll go um you've been pretty clear. Your criticism of the President and imagine a dreamers feel the same way. You do probably to the point where they right not wanna be in the same room. President love. One listen to the speech and very possibly House for the successes you have any hesitation show important congressman. You ask why or why not be different. No, absolutely not um what's up with first Doctor first gotta announce the first was first created in 20 12 two we're kind of the same situation where a lot of people dreamers wanted to take that risk. I I'm fortunate enough that I grew up along very incredible. Uh leaders within social Justice movement that help me understand that I was just to hit to the power of your personal story um and I always understood the value of fighting for what you believe and you know, taking the risk you know what you have to to just make a better life for yourself, cast. I don't started so there wasn't any hesitation for me because I love these or Reference we are in desperate times a month desperate times call for desperate measures. We need to be able to tell her um to share stories and whatever way possible, um and write more um create more exposure for this. For this issue and this is just just another way to do it I'm fortunate that my first you know time wanted cc is having to go out to do this. It's sad that I have to go get it um, but I This is there's no, this is my life. Thank you know there's no choice. There's, no going back country moving our uh. You mention you message present your work with freedom earlier this week on Washington dc, mayor wheeler said that the practice subpoena sanctuary cities and one of the worst accident scene from what has been his lifetime with you that state it's appalling and we have local officials who are acting under the color of state law and in fact, they're respecting and many cases, what is federal. I mean the Enforcement of immigration is a federal responsibility. Uh there's also good, solid policy reasons tonight kind of things, people we have tens of thousands of people who are like all them or their families. Uh they are in fact, part of the community. Their work they are working most and most of the adults are employed um working in restaurants that we visit uh hospitals, nursing homes. They help make or even agriculture thrive um putting in ah Official barrier to discourage them for example, for seeking legal help if they needed or seeking health care, is outrageous. Anyone hurts the rest of us in or if you have children who are sick, do not see a doctor or people who been subjected to domestic abuse or have seen criminal behavior are princes about doing what any other citizen should do it's not just bad for them Bad for everybody else, there's, a good reason for us to follow our responsibilities and try and make sure that we are as welcoming as engaging as we can be and to try new strong arm tactics to bully state and local officials. Um. I think it's a case of over reach. I think it's very disturbing and, as part of the pattern of this administration, up to go right up to the edge and sometimes go over. It, whether it's potential obstruct Of Justice, uh in terms of what the President did with the investigations into this behavior um. We still don't know the full story in terms of Russian interference with the election. Um and the changing stories about what the involvement was. I mean this is a pattern that is disturbing but to focus their attention on trying to undermined and bully who state and local officials who are doing their job. I think, is a miss placed Entices, I think it's wrong and it is in seventh. I love of you or your family had any interaction with immigrations and customs enforcement says the president's golf um that might, with your family anybody that you know 40 percent me that's a couple of people. Um well, the biggest right. I think, if not the biggest right senses administration um to charge having in woodburn I've been fishing a part of complex with me. My dad, you soon Both fiber six apartment sound one of the members of that family, the head of household of my five father to a five American citizens, was taken I'm for the both of you, what do you hope to accomplish by using having probabilities but for me it's being able to spend my time wisely and productively here with Them as I say, not dignified what should be a song and important cage. I could not be more proud to have a representative of our district. I call that he mentions his it's his first visit to Washington dc we're gonna trying make it productive, but it's a kind of a bittersweet lesson with uh but for him again uh being here, making this representation is an active courage Because he believes that we need to change the policy, these with his been working to do that. Um had at some risk to himself. So I am I'm proud that he is representing is and then his willing to share his story talk about why it's important because the American public is growing in their support for changing the policies we see now strong majorities want to provide protection for dreamers strong majorities in Can people would have supported immigration legislation that passed the Senate on a bipartisan basis, a couple years ago and the Republican leadership wouldn't allow us to vote on in the House We're watching the landscape change and that's part of why I think there's gonna be an earthquake politically in this country. This year and I think it's going to help us get to the point where public attention public pressure, owner behavior is going to bring the change that. How they has been fighting for and deserve curse me say that there's um risk, although here you guys worried about any sort of I mean you're making a Statement I mean is there possibly statement that could be date back 10 in service or Well, how this been pretty outspoken in terms of his advocacy is one of the things that called him to my attention. I've watched him perform uh politically provide leadership. They can talk about other things. He does is working on affordable housing as a volunteer um He's thinking that step to make oregon better and to make the case for the change that he's fighting for and I am, I truly am honored that he would uh join us, but I am mindful that not just today but what he has done for several years now is a step up just becoming uh deciding up for the doctor program was a leap of faith and confidence in the federal government's um and I'm hopeful that we don't let it down some deals that Whose idea was to send a thousand different that we're gonna have that that was that the natural reaction for me that I had some very interesting yes at state of the Union speeches. Um Thomas, lauderdale uh actually see that next to ted nugent and kind of on situation. If you go Charles straight I mean fuck-it is uh it's been there a very important and simple Kevin, I am pleased and I think all my Democratic colleagues, if I'm not mistaken, are sending taco uh right representatives so I think that's for out of the five from the House will be in the in the chamber, making that point with your presence and then being able to share their story will come back how did you see yourself is There's, a representative of Dr recent boots are there representing all the people that uh comes in blue and how represents so there's so juicy yourself representing just Dr recipients are you see yourself. Everything kinda larger people who are in that congressman who now represents uh I see myself as both coming to the, should have right now is issue dot com and uh the need for clean, dramatic and the need for comprehensive immigration reform, but I also I that was the most representative them of oregon and this constituency because this is my home. This is where I grew up. I did go to the same places you all go to you know. I love to go on hikes, a. I love this uh. This place everything about it um. I most definitely represents, is unfortunate is I always have to share my story is an art and I just really as a human who lives in portland and enjoys to Department things in oregon face I'm definitely most than anything representative of everything else that's going in America. I think Authentic or going you describes it uh sharing the values and mention the work that he doing in terms of affordable housing, uh. He was one of the speakers at the campaign victory party for major one on one um and I think perhaps most important for me uh representing younger only going which These young people have their future on the line and we mortgage their future for a massive tax cut for people who didn't need it and borrowing money. That they are something that a young people who are gonna pay the price. If we don't deal with our environmental challenges and hiking likes to do uh the management of our precious places um, I think it kinda symbolizes for me uh oregon's future and that I Said, and eloquently in terms of both representing the dreamers, but also oregonian in the values and shares, but I think especially for young people because those are the people that have the most on the line with some of these reckless activities. So, although if you have a moment to sit down with her just meet with the President with Speaker Paul Ryan, what would you say to record to them Have a kind think about is the natural thing would be really try to appeal to their community and they haven't spray but that's been done before they're not this is not a new issue. They know with the nothing over dreamers are they know what they do. They know that they contribute you know so much to this um. I you know, I would only be uh like my head is my job So we just be the cool just continue to do that and and show you that and I deserve to be here and um. This is my home and I have nowhere else to go Well said, thank you all for, for joining this for what we think is a What question and follows. Thank you for stepping forward again and this next adventure legal that is invested much
