We had an utterly miserable experience last night. We were initially placed at a table right outside the kitchen. Admittedly, when we asked to move, because we were not enjoying the experience of tray...s wizzing over our heads, we were relocated; but to have tables in that position places customers in the invidious position of having to complain before their dining experience has even begun.

I asked for suggestions for an appropriate wine choice and was assured that the sommelier would be with us promptly. By the time we had finished our first course I realised the sommelier must be in Burgundy so I asked again and was served in the most off hand manner by someone who wasn’t the sommelier. When the (white) wine arrived it was warm...

I ordered the Octopus as my starter. £15 for four tiny pieces of octopus and some grainy olive mash was a bit of a shock but it was at least edible. My wife’s fruit de mer was impressive visually but the Scallop had not been properly prepared and was full of grit, something which might have contributed to her being up half the night vomiting.

I was a touch surprised to be required to pay £3.75 for a bowl of chips, on top of the £60 we were paying for a lobster Thermidor but reasoned that we wouldn’t worry. However, the oil was tired and the chips flaccid and beige. I asked to change my new potatoes for thick cut chips to go with my Dieppoise and was presented with a bowl containing 4, yes 4, not particularly chunky chips. Unsurprisingly they were raw.

Maybe the person preparing the Dieppoise should be moved onto the chunky chips because they have no problem over cooking things. The fish was inedible so I sent it back. What happened next would have made Basil Fawlty proud. My wife was left with her meal getting cold whilst mine was returned to the kitchen!!! Reasoning that we were best off cutting our losses my wife passed me half of her Lobster, I grabbed myself some cutlery from another table and started to chew. I tried the skinny chips because half a tentacle of octopus is not really enough to get through the night and they were repulsive, the thick cut chips were uncooked and the solace of a glass of wine was warm. An assistant manager tried to discuss the situation with us but, by that stage we had finished what we could eat and didn’t want to ruin the experience of our neighbours. We paid the gargantuan bill including the grasping and cheeky £3.75 for a bowl of chips cooked in oil that, I doubt, had been changed for six months.

So disgracefully over priced, possibly poisonous, certainly dreadfully cooked and served with a warm glass of Chenin Blanc.

And a wife who made the booking, distraught on our tenth wedding anniversary, thank you very much for little more than nothing.

We dined here last night and were a party of four. I booked several months ago as a Birthday present for my husband. We have been fortunate enough to have stayed and eaten here on many occasions. We h...ave in the past always stayed in St Edmonds House but on this occasion stayed above the restaurant. The rooms were absolutely fabulous. So beautifully presented and could not fault a thing. Following pre dinner drinks in the conservatory we were shown to our table which was perfectly situated. Our starters were delicious and the main courses were perfectly cooked and again delicious. I very rarely choose a dessert but on this occasion all four of us went for the raspberry soufflé. Fabulous. We had the perfect evening and not one of us could find a single fault. Well done. We all slept well despite Storm Eleanor gusting outside. Breakfast was again excellent. Thank you for making us so welcome. We will definitely be back again later in the year. See More

We ate here on Saturday night, I booked it as an early Christmas present for my husband as he loves Ricks books. The food was good if a little overpriced. The problem was that after being served the... mains we were totally ignored. Another couple were placed next to us who were very loud and the man kept swearing. I had to ask him to stop swearing, something I think the manager should have done.
Anyway after sitting for about 3/4 of an hour listing to this man's loud conversation, staring at our empty plates, I managed to summon a manager to clear the table as our waitress was nowhere to be seen.
We travelled from the north east of England around 330 miles to visit this restaurant, something we won't be doing again.
Perhaps Rick and Jill should spend a little more time at home managing their overpriced restaurants instead of leaving it to staff who couldn't care less.
I feel sorry for the chefs who produce good food.
So in conclusion ... overpriced and bad service. We won't be back

We dined here last night (20.12.17) as a party of three including one gluten free and one vegetarian and what a great experience it was from start to finish. A friendly welcoming greeting on arrival,... and attentive service throughout. The menu was vast and food was delightful. A separate vegetarian menu was available and the staff took our son's gluten intolerance into consideration confirming what dishes could be adapted and which were naturally gluten free. Like a previous reviewer, we were sat by the kitchen but this in no way hampered our enjoyment of the evening. All in all a fabulous evening, top class food, superb staff, great menu and wine list, and I would highly recommend this restaurant. See More

As with many fine dining experiences, it's not always easy to give a full appreciation of the quality of the food, service and ambience in a short review. We (four) had lunch there today and I'm plea...sed to say it more than lived up to our admittedly high expectations. We decided to go for the tasting menu, together with a wine flight of the sommellier's choosing. The flavour of each and every of the six courses was exceptional. Service was impeccable, and Chef even stopped by the table to say hello. I've already been checking diaries to see when we may be able to make a return visit. Go if you can. You won't be disappointed. See More

Been following Rick and I should say Jill for years and first time we have had the chance to come down for 2 days, the food and in particular the service from Owen our waiter was fabulous who not only... was very knowledgeable also had a sense of humour and loved our banter.
And as they say you are not paying for the food but the experience. Tonight we are on for round 2 at Jack Steins food demo so hopefully as good.

On 31.12.17 we made our second visit to The Seafood Restaurant and I’m delighted to say we were not disappointed. The welcome, atmosphere, service and most importantly food were outstanding. Yes, it’t the cheapest meal in town but we can honestly say the flavour sensation, and attention to detail is exquisite. To help celebrate any special occasion a visit to The Seafood Restaurant is a must! See More

Enjoyed a really beautiful meal for my Birthday. Had the set lunchtime menu. I tried some food which I hadn't tried before. Each course was beautifully presented. The start were pleasant and nothing too much. I had to ask what one dish was as I didn't know. When my pudding came the chef and written happy birthday in chocolate sauce See More

We stayed for two days at Rick Stein hotel behind his restaurant called St Petroc's. This was for my best friends 70th birthday. The rooms are very well decorated and tastefully furnished, not Very bi...g but very nice. The beds are to die for. We ate in his cafe the first evening which was wonderful and then last night it was the Seafood Restaurant. Well the food was just outstanding, service excellent, polite young girl served us with a lovely smile. I cannot express the quality of the food, taste, presentation. Over the two nights the food was excellent. We all checked out this morning still raving obout our meal last night. P.S. I just had to buy from his shop the wonderful hand and body lotion. You are lucky I did not take the one from our bathroom!!! See More

I came to the restaurant in Barnes with my family on the 7th October to celebrate Mum's 70th birthday. There were 11 of us round the table and we had a fabulous time. Between us we sampled the John Do...ry, Dover Sole, Oysters, Scallops, Tiger Prawns and a few other dishes that escape me now! Really delicious and a treat for a family of seafood lovers. Mum used to watch you on the TV years ago and is a big fan of yours Rick! She even recorded a video message to share what she enjoyed eating the most, with an invitation to you to visit her in Accra, Ghana! Many thanks to your staff and manager Paul for taking such good care of us on this special occasion. See More
