I use to love this place! I worked here briefly a couple years ago, but still tried to visit off and on whenever I was in the Williamsbu rg area because the coffee, food and service were always great. ...Hadn't visited in a while but decided to bring a friend who had never been, since I always raved about it. Unfortunat ely we were greeted (barely) by rude staff who not only looked miserable, but had very little interest in providing my friend, a first time visitor, with suggestion s. She's not super into coffee, but I assured her that Toby's was great and she'd like whatever they suggested. They were totally unresponsi ve, I had to ask if the guy had heard me since he didn't say anything when I ordered. We also didn't even want to attempt food at that point. Definitely not what I remembered , while I'd most likely return, my friend said she definitely wouldn't be back. See More

I have previously rated Toby's 5* for great coffee and awsome service.
However, my last two visits this weekend have been a disappoint ment.
I've visited the place many times when I've been in W'burg....
Yesterday I ordered two cappuccino s and a drip coffee.
I asked if the Ethiopian was washed or natural, where the barista replied she thought it was washed...A nyway,
The cappuccino s where not cappuccino s,they were flatwhites . No foam,at all.
One was fine with it but I asked the barista to please make another cappuccino . She replied with: Oh,you wanted a dry one? I said: no I would like a cappuccino ,not a flat white.
When she had redone the drink she called out "DRY cappuccino " in a very rude tone.
For some reason she was angry with me..
When we got the drink it still had no foam(not even dry..) but what made me most upset was the fact that she had made an under-extr acted espresso so that the drink would taste horrible! I spent over $20 for bad drinks and an akward experience .
I didn't want to complain again and make a scene so we just left.
I've worked in the speciality coffee industry for over ten years,so I know how to make a cappuccino ,dry and wet, in case you were wondering.
I usually don't leave comments like this unless they are positive but I feel it's such a shame that a great place like Toby's makes me feel that I don't want to come back. Please adjust the attitudes of the staff, because our experience could have been so much better.
We've also visited Blue Bottle the days we have been here, and the service and coffee have been 5* See More

I brought 25 very thirsty Aussies in at 11 in the morning on a Saturday and they turned out the Flat Whites and the avocoado toasts in no time at all! It kept our tour running on time and everyone lov...ed it. Way to go! Thank you.
