Speaking of that terrific course, Insects and Culture, Dr. Katy Prudic is offering it this summer in Summer Sessions I and 2. Below see a gorgeous example of ho...w insects inspire fashion designers through patterns seen in Morpho and Monarch butterflies.
What does “Insects and Culture” actually mean? Insects account for more than half of all described species on earth - creeping, crawling and flying into human culture and constantly reshaping our societies and economic wealth. Topics covered include by insects and human disease, insect-derived products, insects and artistic inspiration, and insects in agriculture. Students explore the diverse ways the lives of insects and humans intertwine and how cultural research and human expression reveal these interactions.
