• The most common problem with Urdu Fonts in Ubuntu is that the fonts are broken/disjointed. This is not Ubuntu's fault, but the way web browsers use fonts on Linux system is a bit strange.

    But, finally here is the definite solution.

    ...

    STEPS:

    1. install all Urdu fonts available in package repos.

    2. For Firefox, this problem can be solved by setting the Urdu (Nakash/Noori/Nastaleeq etc.) fonts as default fonts for Arabic. Go to:

    Options/Preferences

    -> Fonts & Colors

    -> Advanced

    -> Fonts for: select Arabic (instead of Western), and select Serif=Nakash, Sans-serif=Nakash (or instead of Nakash any Urdu font).

    AND MOST IMPORTANT:: Uncheck the box: Allow pages to choose their own fonts.

    ------------------

    3. For Chrome: Go to:

    -> Settings::

    -> Advanced Settings::

    -> Web Contents -> Customize Fonts::

    -> Fonts and Encoding: instead of default Western fonts, you have to:

    select: Jameel Noori Nastaleeq/ PakType Naqash (or your Urdu font)::

    Encoding: instead of Western, select Arabic.

    If there is still any problem, kindly leave a comment below this note, or post it at the page.
