UCD Orienteering Club will be holding a beginners' training event this Saturday the 30th of September at 11:00 am in Deer Park. Meet at the west entrance to the park (Mount Anville Road side).
All welcome! 😊
We'll be taking part in Trinity's event this Sunday! Ideal for beginners and experienced orienteers alike!
This year's Intervarsities will be hosted by UCD and will take place in Dublin and Kildare.
On Saturday there will be an informal sprint race in UCD, and then an evening social with drinks and a meal.
Intervarsities will take place on the Sunday in conjunction with the CNOC event on the Curragh. (Details will be posted here as soon as we have them.)
Last but not least, Colm Moran, also leaves us this year.
Three-time captain, three-time Intervarsity individual & team gold medalist, and having represented Ireland at the world orienteering championships, it's safe to say Colm is certainly a member that won't be missed. Give someone else a chance, mate.
Farewell. God knows when we shall meet again.
Third member UCDO say goodbye to, pictured here, is Laurence Quinn.
Laurence leaves as club captain. As a 2-time individual intervarsity medalist, and 3-time intervarsity team winner, he is another member that will be missed.
Laurence's contribution to the club has been vast, particularly by way of mapping most of the campus, along with Cillín Corbett, and some help from Roy Harford.
They say you can take the man out of UCDO, but you can never take UCDO out of the man.
Next key member the club will say goodbye to this year, pictured below, is Ben Mangan.
A strong orienteer, hill-running extraordinaire, keen climber, and all-round mountaineer. Ben has represented Ireland in both mountain running and orienteering, and in him, another brave soul departs the club.
His growth these last few years says it all.
This year UCDO say goodbye to 4 key members of the club.
The first, pictured below, is Cillín Corbett. Former treasurer, and 3-time Intervarsity team gold medalist, with him a strong asset is lost.
He joined UCDO a boy, he leaves a man.
Join us tomorrow for some Orienteering around UCD. Starts are from 1pm - 3pm at the Engineering car park. Free entry for UCD Orienteering club members.
The 2nd event of the College Campus Series will take place in University College Dublin (Belfield) on February 13th.
Parking will be in the car park beside the Engineering building so please enter UCD from the N11, at the UCD flyover.
The start and finish will be located nearby.
Google Maps: https://www.google.ie/…/53%C2%B018'26.9%22N+6%C2%B013'05.6…/
There will be three courses available, a short, a medium and a long course of 2.5km, 4km and 5km respectively.. This is straight-line distance and the shortest route could be up to 30% longer.
Courses will be printed on waterproof A3 paper for the long.
The map of the campus has been recently extended and updated by Cillín Corbett, Jonathan Quinn and Laurence Quinn. The map will be at 1:4000 and drawn in ISSOM.
For anybody wishing to catch the Ireland rugby match 'The Clubhouse' bar in UCD would be a handy option with a good atmosphere.
Great performances from all the UCDO members competing in the Northern Irish and Irish Middle distance championships last weekend in Magilligan. UCDO placed 1st, 3rd and 4th in both the men's and women's classes in the NIOC on Saturday. They went better still the next day at the IOC, placing 1st, 2nd and 4th, again in both classes. Special mention for the winners Colm Moran and Niamh Corbett. #FutureIsBright
