Hiya everyone,
Hope you are keeping safe during this pandemic as well as taking this time to understand and act alongside the Black Lives Matter movement in whichever way you can. We had a PhilCircle yesterday on the value of anger- the emotion that has historically, and will continue to, shape history. We will continue to offer weekly safe spaces to check in and chat with you all about whatever you are feeling right now, so feel free to drop by and send us a message.
On ano...ther note, in order to keep the society going, we have to arrange a new Philosophy Society committee. We are committed to making this year as diverse and as inclusive as possible so please apply if you are also passionate about changing the way that being a philosopher is perceived- we are worlds away from old white men smoking pipes!
Please fill in this form by Monday 6pm.

This week, Wednesday 10th June at 5pm, Summer Philosophy at the UoM will be asking: “What is the Value of Anger?”

Some philosophers (notably Martha Nussbaum) argue that the answer to this question is ‘not much’ (see: https://aeon.co/…/there-s-no-emotion-we-ought-to-think-hard…. Other philosophers (such as Amia Srinivasan) argue that the answer is actually ‘a great deal’ (https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/a-righteous-fury/).

If you also wonder about this question, come... along to Zoom this Wednesday and join us in a PhilCircle discussion on the topic.

Register on Eventbrite with your university email address, to attend (no non-uni email addresses admitted):https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/summer-philchat-tickets-1045….
