We hope that the recovery process goes smooth and the country to return to normal operations as soon as possible. I am using this opportunity to urge people to offer as much assistance as they can. Caribbean unity is necessary at this time and ...I am sure that we are all rallying to support our brothers and sisters in Haiti. Haiti needs our support. I urge you to continue the efforts. Usain Bolt is close to the 3 million mark
…on Facebook
...KINGSTON, December 15 Just over four months since Usain Bolt lost his first race in two years at the August 6 Stockholm meet, his popularity has not waned- well certainly not on Facebook. His facebook statistics is showing an additional 930,000 fans since that time.
Bolt’s numbers on facebook has shown a 45 per cent increase taking it to 2,996,814 fans. The breakdown of fans shows that at least 950,000 fans log on each month with just about 250,000 on average each week.
Bolt’s philanthropic contributions to the completion of the Sherwood Content Health Centre and his visits to his community reported top figures in early December with an average of 1.2 million hits per story; while the other major stories with record impressions of over one million came from the serialization of his illustrated autobiography – My Story: 9.58. The serialization was carried by the Jamaica Observer.
Another astounding fact on Facebook is that 75 per cent of the users are male while the remainder is female. Of the total fans - 41 per cent is in the 13 – 17 age group while 39 per cent are in the 18 – 24 age group. The third most popular group is 25 – 34 totaling 12 per cent.
The top countries are UK, USA, France, Italy, Canada and Chile.
Bolt launched his book in London in September and in Jamaica in October. The attraction Usain Bolt Tracks and Records is set to open first quarter of 2011 in Kingston.
The World and Olympic champion for the 100 and 200 metres is currently training in Kingston and is “in pretty good shape” as he prepares for the 2011 World Championship, scheduled for Daegu, South Korea and the rest of the track and field season.

The star's philantrophy goes deep into his parish of birth
Usain took time out his busy schedule on Saturday, December 4 to spend a full day in his parish of birth, Trelawny to see for himself the progress of the projects he has been supporting for the last few years. While there he picked up a new project, this time with Gore Homes, a new housin...g development in Florence Hall. Usain has endorsed the facility and has gotten for himself the model home.
Usain has also combined with Gore Homes to refurbish, fix and upgrade the canteen facility at his alma mater, William Knibb Memorial High School. Work on that project will get underway in Janauary 2011. The school celebrates its 50th anniversary next year. Usain left William Knibb in 2003.
He then went over to his basic school. Piedmont, where his contributions have made it possible for the school to have electricity. The premises were totally re-wired and now has its own metre.
The Sherwood Content Health Centre was the final stop for the day where proceeds from the 9.58 SuperParty, which was held last year, went into upgrade and refurbishing of the type one facility. The property which is owned by the National Peoples Cooperative Bank was leased to the Ministry of Health and Usain's other partners joined in to assist.

KINGSTON, NOVEMBER 10
Another award for Usain Bolt and we say WOW! But this one has far reaching implications for the Jamaican track and field superstar. The coveted Face of Travel Award was presented at the World Travel Awards Show in London on November 7.
...Usain's extraordinary performance on the track has earned him several sport-related awards highlighting the fact that he has positively impacted on track and field over the last two years. He has continued the rich Jamaican tradition of excellence in sport pioneered by Herb McKenley, Don Quarrie, Merlene Ottey and so many others.
Usain and the current set of athletes have caused the eyes of the world to be staring at Jamaica and they ask "Why do Jamaicans run so fast?" When we find out, we won't tell you (smile)
Back to the Face of Travel Award....award for the icon who has contributed significantly to travel and tourism in 2010; this is a BIG thing and should be celebrated. When this lanky (not so lanky anymore) Jamaican track and field star beats out fellow sport stasr David Beckham & Rafael Nadal along with Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger; Hollywood elites, Kevin Costner and Kevin Spacey & Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickenson...I just think it is a BIG deal.
David Beckham earned appreciation for boosting his country’s tourism profile as he served as ambassador for England's 2018 World Cup bid. The tennis ace Rafael Nadal is also among the favorites to win the “Face of Travel” award as he actively supported a sport tourism campaign in his native Balearic Islands. Last year, he had won the title "World Tennis Player of the Year" at the World Sports Awards. Usain Bolt was featured in the Jamaica Tourist Board's campaign - Once you go, you know.
This therefore says Brand Jamaica is STRONGER than ever and Usain's impact is showing his diversity as a BRAND himself. What is also amazing, is Usain's season was cut short because of an injury but he remained in the news with the launch of his illustrated autobiography in September.
Bolt has received a set of awards, not directly realted to sport including being listed in Ebony's 65th anniversary edition as one of the best athletes in 65 years. The other Caribbean athlete is Sir Vivian Richards. He was also listed for Essence as Eye Candy - Hotties under 30; while askmen.com profiled him as the second most popular male figure beating US President, Barack Obama.
Usain in the off-season has added 30 per cent more fans to his facebook page totalling now over 2.5 million fans and pulls a crowd wherever he goes. His exploits on and off the track serve up a balanced meal with all the elements involved, not without some distractions, which are manageable.
We salute Usain and look forward to Daegu 2011 and London 2012.

Ian Randle Publishers has scored a major coup in securing publishing rights to Usain Bolt: My Story 9.58 – Being the World’s Fastest Man. Today, Managing Director, Christine Randle confirmed earlier media reports that her company would be publishing Bolt’s illustrated autobiography in the Caribbean.
When asked how her small company managed to acqui...re publishing rights to what could easily be the biggest book of the year, Randle replied “in fact HarperCollins UK – who Bolt signed his original publishing deal with – they came to us. They contacted us through our website and asked if we’d be interested in taking on a local edition. The answer was an easy yes. Usain Bolt is such an inspirational figure and has done so much for Jamaica. This book was an easy fit into our publishing plans and will definitely get people reading again!”
While Randle was mum on the details of the deal, she did confirm that Ian Randle Publishers would be publishing the book for the entire English-speaking Caribbean. She went on to say “this is such a major accomplishment for the Company as we move to commemorate our twentieth anniversary in 2011. It fits right in with our plans to present the market with some new and exciting offerings”.
Bolt is currently on tour promoting My Story 9.58, but his local promotional activities in conjunction with Ian Randle Publishers include a launch and at least two major signings and will take place in October.
Usain Bolt: My Story 9.58 – Being the World’s Fastest Man, chronicles the life of triple Olympic and world champion Usain Bolt, from his early primary school days to the present time.

Inspiring and entertaining, this easy to read book at over 280 pages is in full colour and contains never before seen photographs of Bolt at work and at play. Testimonials from those who have had a major influence in the young athlete’s life are included giving the book a truly authentic voice.

Eight days … … three gold medals …… three world records … one amazing reputation firmly established. Usain Bolt's life – and the world of sport – would never be quite the same again.
16 August 2008 … Beijing, China … the Bird's Nest stadium … 91,000 spectators and an unimaginably huge global television audience … the final of the men's 100 metres at... the Games of the XXIX Olympiad.
Since those heady days of the Beijing Olympics in August 2008, Usain Bolt has lowered both the 100 metres and 200 metres world records once again - to a barely believable 9.58 and 19.19 seconds respectively - as the World Championships in Berlin brought two more gold medals and yet more superlatives.
At a stroke the Jamaican has become the greatest sports star in the world.
9.58 is Usain Bolt's story so far, in his own words, beautifully illustrated with dozens of specially commissioned photographs. It's about a skinny kid from the parish of Trelawny, where they harvest the best yams in the world. It's about growing up playing cricket and football in the warm Jamaican sun, then discovering that he could run fast, very fast. It's about family, friends and the laid-back Jamaican culture. It's about Auntie Lillian's pork and dumplings and Dad's grocery store in the sleepy village of Sherwood Content.
It's about what makes him tick, where he gets his motivation and where he takes his inspiration. It's about the highs and the lows, the dedication and sacrifices required to get to the top. It's about fast food, partying, dancehall music, fast cars and that lightning bolt pose. It's about radiating sport's biggest smile.
This is the story of the fastest man on the planet.
Usain St Leo Bolt was born in Trelawny, Jamaica, in August 1986. At the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing he won gold in the 100m (9.69 seconds), the 200m (19.30) and the 4x100m relay (37.10), becoming the first man to win three sprinting events at a single Olympics since Carl Lewis in 1984. He also became the first man to set world records in all three at a single Olympics. At the World Championships in Berlin in 2009 he claimed the sprinting double, and became the first man to hold the 100m and 200m World and Olympic titles at the same time. He broke the world records for both the 100m (9.58) and the 200m (19.19) in the process. In 2009 he was voted Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, and he also won the BBC's Overseas Sports Personality of the Year award in both 2008 and 2009.He lives in Kingston, Jamaica.Published by Harper Collins UK - 20 pounds (HB)

Munich, August 10 After an assessment from his medical team we can confirm that Usain Bolt will close his 2010 track season and cancel his participation in the IAAF Diamond League meetings - Weltklasse Zurich and Memorial van Damme, Brussels.
Usain was examined yesterday (Monday, August 9) by Dr Hans Müller-Wohlfahrt in Munich who found a probl...em in his lower back. He has a tightness that restricts his ability to generate power in his stride and continuing to race in this condition could risk injury to his hamstrings or calf muscles. With a view to his future career we believe further treatment to loosen his back followed by a period of rest will be in his best interest. We are delighted to report that the MRI scan on his Achilles tendon showed that it has now completely healed.
Usain’s reaction
“I am very disappointed to miss two of the top meetings on the circuit – Zurich & Brussels – but trust that it is better for me not to take any risks this year. 2011 and 2012 are very important Championship years and I hope to be back fully fit and healthy. I would like to thank everyone for their support and look forward to coming back stronger next year.”

Bolt of Jamaica poses for a photo after receiving the Men's World Athlete of the Year Award during the IAAF World Athletics Gala at the Hotel on November 23, 2008 in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
LAST year's IAAF Male Athlete of the Year, Usain Bolt, who starred at last summer's Beijing Olympics with three gold medals, will be making his 2009 debut in exactl...y 30 days, according to his coach, Glen Mills.
"He's going to run his first race on February 14 at the Camperdown Classics, running the 400 metres, along with Ricardo Chambers and Yohan Blake," Mills told the Observer on Tuesday.
Bolt, who rewrote the sprinting chapter in the Olympic record books by posting 9.69secs and 19.30secs in the 100 and 200 metres before sharing in the 4x100 metres relay victory of 37.10 secs in Beijing, also opened his 2008 season by competing in the 400m.
"He's supposed to run another 400 at the UWI Invitational," Mills added. The UWI meet is scheduled for February 21 at the National Stadium.
Asked where Bolt will be running his first overseas race, Mills replied: "We haven't touched (thought about) that yet."
Meanwhile Mills, the 2008 North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) and the Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association (JAAA) Coach of the Year, says Bolt's preparations is back on track after some early disruptions associated with his many social appearances on the local and international scene.
"Well, we took that into account... it did have some interruption but we have sort of settled down now to some constant training as we have nothing planned in the near future," the veteran coach added.
