As many Texas are aware, the Board of Pardons and Paroles voted unanimously to recommend clemency for Thomas Whitaker. We hope that Governor Abbott will take swift action and commute Whitaker's sentence.

In an extraordinary case out of Atacosa county, "two potential jurors who[m] [the trial judge] deemed “very credible” members of the community gave statements to authorities reporting law enforcement officers in the county had contacted them informally and made them feel, as the defense put it, that they were being “hand-picked” for the jury."

A surviving victim of his son's crime, Kent Whitaker is seeking mercy for Thomas Whitaker, who is scheduled for execution on February 22, 2018, for his role in the killings of his mother and brother.

A federal court recently ruled in favor of former Texas death row inmate Alfred Dewayne Brown. His lawsuit against the city, county, district attorney and the police department will continue. According to Brown’s lawyers Harris County’s "long-standing policies of a conviction culture" gave rise to “a breeding ground for constitutional violation.”
