My name is Doctor Shannon Kendrick I represent the Great 90 Center House which is Eastern Cab and South Wind Gwinnett and I would not want to be any other place on a Saturday morning this year with you making sure that our voices allowing clear about our right here Sorry can you hear me now It's gonna have a Yale so excuse me so I just want to give you a little bit of an update about what I've been doing to make sure that Georgians voices turned so a couple of weeks ago me and senator in the kingdom Williams were able to go to Illinois and you know Illinois just passed the nation's first become choice legislation Like they had an Illinois, I wish we had a governor here in the state of Back on the women in his life and he realized that big road twice It's the only way to lead a state into a future and so I give a big round of applause to the Illinois legislators And I was out there recruiting because as you know in order for us to change what's going on in the state we need to let you need to elect pro choice candidate and so I gather as many Illinois legislators as I possibly could and I said make sure when we have elections next year you come on down to the state of Georgia cuz I have many many of people that I would like you to knock on their door and visit their neighborhoods so that we can flip this state and make sure they are pro choice people Before I let my other colleagues come up here and I wanted to make sure everybody knew so the narrative has always been that this state is pro life right? That's the term that they wanna use. We know it means pro birth. We know that it's not really pro pro life like they say it is over 30000 people Elderly people are getting kicked out the Medicaid roles here in the state of Georgia. Did you know that 17000 a couple of weeks ago and I was going to send another notice of 13000. That's the state of Georgia claim to be pro life and we can't take care of our most Additionally you may have heard that the governor beat out a reset field We have one of the highest obesity rates here in the state of Georgia to children So when we talk win this win others talk about sick being pro life They don't need pro life. They mean pro Trump Yeah and so it's not only one of us to keep coming out. Keep supporting candidates and organizations and things like this because this is our state We don't take it back He's gonna do a tour so you follow me to say a few words. I have to get out of here but please please please make sure you keep coming back to keep voting and then you keep Morning. So thank you Good morning Let me use my military voice disciplined his son. I know that you all can hear me What representative Sandra G seven to six I'm going to keep it short and brief I'm going to act that government Kim call a special session Alright One that is what we need to do in Jorge Repeal House bill for 81 48. One needs to be repealed That is the bottom line Some acts that you are keep coming Keep keep pushing keep fighting because we still have the opportunity to win this battle It is not over yet and it will not be over until they give women the right to say what they want to say about gala body I would mind belong to us Our people and no one I mean no one should be able to tell me an in a woman what we can or Cannot do with our body It is our right to choose It is the woman right to choose because at the end of the day we know that it is women mostly women that have to take care of these chip and then when you say bring him here we have a problem all across the world and if you think about other at the border how they are treating kids You know that women need to be able to make that choice so I think you I am asking Governor Kim to call a special session to Repeal House Bill for 81 Hey everyone. It's great to see you My name is David Dryer. I represent House District 59 which starts just a few blocks down the road and goes all the way to hate Bill an East point I'm gonna start by saying what I think is most important for someone like me to say here I don't know what's best for women's bodies Do not have the right to control women's body Georgia does not have the right to make laws controlling women's bodies Let me ask you a question. What would happen if 141 came up? We only let women in the Legislature. Vote on that bill Yeah What happened? We only let women in Georgia vote on that bill I can tell you we go down eight or nine to one right The Republican caucus in the state House and state Senate is overwhelmingly comprised of men right right? And so we're working out here in the streets. We are working in the courts but we gotta change the composition of this place right here. We gotta change it at the ballot box And for men running for office the first thing they need to say is I don't know what's best for women's bodies. Period I will make a walk controlling women's bodies. Period, right Our body needs to be comprised of women and men that are not only allies but advocates out here so we can have true gender equality What Last thing I'll say is next year is our time 2020 Yeah We take 15 seats over here We have a veto on any kind of pill affecting discrimination of any type at all. Okay I guarantee you get the Democrats up here 15 more seats and we will stop every piece of discriminatory legislation Well, good morning everybody I'm usually very spoken so we're gonna try to yell here but my name is Brenda Lopez Romero. I'm state representative for District 99 in Connect County Norcross over areas Wow that's right We're here all agreed on everything that we have said the reality is that these conversations about abortion bans are always conversations about ensuring the control of women We all agree on that We all agree that in fact, there is many things particularly that our state Legislature be doing should be doing could have done in terms of actually promoting the welfare of young children and families, but yet we have not My conversation with you because we all agree and we all understand what 41 real purposes What I wanna talk to you about is the work the hard work that we have to do and then yes, that means being here today That means showing up being present being here in Raley's but I have to emphasize and reemphasize what their Shaun had said earlier the way that we get the right legislation that actually protects families that actually protects children that ensures that we promote the quality and promote the economic welfare of everybody in the state of Georgia You do so quite frankly by electing Democrats and I do not In a partisan capacity I say that based on people's voting records do not be a partisan statement to say that Illinois was able to pass protections of Roe v Wade or actually that they also pass three protections for immigrant communities in their state and just last of the day ago Those things did not happen because Republicans voted for that legislation Happened because Democrats proposed that legislation and Democrats voted for that legislation So keep that in mind when you are talking to any candidate always talk not what they say, but ask them how Will you vote Yes or no on specific issues It's not about what we say. It's about how we will and that is the reality that we have seen not only here in our state of Georgia but every world that we see whether it's been Alabama or Mississippi all the state legislatures that have passed similar bills forcing yes, horse birth of on women have been based on Republican legislatures and Republican governors The reality that is not a part of the statement that is success and so your job win is to ensure that you're here today and that you're here every day that you need to be to show your presence but we also have to get people elected and yes we have said that but what I wanna tell you is we get people elected good people elected by working on their campaigns It takes a lot of work It takes unfortunately a lot of money for those of us that run for office but some of that cost of money can be subs can be substituted Quite frankly by the labor that you put in in volunteer to several campaign so make sure that you're involved and we absolutely need to change our legislation and we do only need 15 seats in the State House in seven seats in the Senate to be able to have a majority Democratic Legislature But we also need city councils to be supportive of families and children through local ordinances. We need our County commissions as we need as Mention absolutely our state Legislature and we also need to fortify our federal Congress We need to ensure that we get a higher majority in the state and US House and we also need to work on our Senate and we know we have a US Senate race that's gonna go on here in our state of Georgia as well Yeah Lastly this as much as there is so much work to be done in this Legislature I decided among many reasons to continue taking the fight to federal Congress and decided to run for Georgia Seventh Congressional District precisely because we need folks that understand the day to day concerns that we have on our local government and how that is impacted and can be fortified at the federal level As we mentioned, if we would not have this same level of concern that we have for creating one if we had had a stronger Senate that was not a basically a rubber stamping the nominations to federal of federal judgeships that is highly important because all of these cases we have a high reliance as an attorney on making sure that these discriminatory bills are always blocked and stopped at the federal courts but that will get Vibrant harder the less we have control of the US Senate and U S Congress. I will home because they will are the ones that appoint our federal judges It is important at all levels that we continue fighting these issues One last thing that I wanna leave you with All levels of office census is coming up Unfortunately, that means I'm giving you more work to do and by that I mean is that we also have to participate with all our communities to ensure especially communities that tend to be undercounted and those are communities of color. Those are low income communities Those are precisely the families and children that tend to be under counted With your organizations on tacos I think the people on top of being here you also have to ensure that we have a property census count and the reason that matters to the conversation that we're having today is for those two reasons that the sense of so important The first one is funding all our federal funding formulas rely on the information that we get to the senses and if we are pro life because we support families and children and support a legislation and laws that promote the welfare of families and children that's why we're here today then we need to ensure that we have proper federal Based on a proper count of our community and the second thing goes back and goes back to the circle of what we've been discussing the census is what is going to be used to look at how to redistrict and water population counts are for state of Georgia It'll also it's quite likely that in the state of Georgia, we might have had enough populations increase to gain once under additional congressional seats and that congressional seat must be in Metro Atlanta because of our population growth and that is one more potential seat that we can have a good elected person One more inspiration for you and then we will line up and do women's This is Doctor Teresa Johnson She has something to say I stand with you this morning I woman frustrated to witness history repeating itself I stand with you as a woman is fighting for the right to choose what is best for me What to do with my body and how to control my own future We are here Today to use our collective bodies to protest for our rights the right to have the freedom of choice but we have been here before history is repeating itself I joined this movement as a black woman a black woman speaking out against structural racism bias discrimination the injustices of modern day lynching militarized policing Mass incarceration broken over connect I stand before you today to demand for you to hear my voice We do not want to live like this anymore History is repeating itself I am here as a historically marginalized majority minority to protest the inhumanity demonstrated by this administration The walls the cages the round up point the salvation the deprivation the hunting and Concentration camp Because no conscious no warranty conscious in a voice we remember standing at his door History is repeating itself I stand with my yellow Brown and White allies with the understanding that there is never one single issue But a Web of current justices are intertwined Our history of hate you stay When the right to vote is suppressed when the right to live is threatened and when the right to drive is oppressed we are all at risk
