I hear people say "don't go to the ICJ until Guatemala becomes a friendly neighbor".
If they were a friendly neighbor this Dispute wouldn't exist. Their rassery... in the Sarstoon wouldn't exist. Their disrespect wouldn't exist.
All of their antics are actually why we SHOULD take them to the ICJ.
People seem to believe we have The Avengers in Government or in the BDF who can simply punch Guatemala in the face and get them to chill out. But we don't and never will. As skilled as our soldiers are or as assertive as any politician can be towards them, we can't control them.
The ONLY place where we can beat up this bully is at the principal's office; the ICJ.

Re-sharing my post because I can’t stress this enough. The ICJ is our best option. I studied this case for my final paper in international law 4 years ago and I... concluded that the ICJ is our best and only option, and I maintain my stance. Vote YES.
The only way to “tell Guatemala to leave we Belize alone” is to go to the ICJ. Most Belizeans are skeptical, not unconvinced. The ICJ’s very nature and purpose is to settle disputes between countries, since it was founded in 1945 as an organ of the UN. Belize, as a sovereign state and as a member of the UN, would look like a “hard-headed pickni” if it voted against going to the ICJ - we complain about Guatemala trespassing, but we don’t want to go to court. Nobody wa tek we serious! Mediation doesn’t work. Diplomacy doesn’t work. Are we waiting for the possibility of further aggression by Guatemala? I hope not. If I trespass on your property and claim it as mine, I’m damn sure you will take me to court. Same concept.
