Since the article appeared in the telegraph about the riding school i have had quite a few people contact me and the family. I know i will greatly miss the children and adults who still ride with us and i certainly remember many of the riders in the past. it has been mostly laughter over many years and sometimes tears
I have been privileged over the past 30 years, since we lost Jean,to run Weelsby It was very humbling to step into her shoes as she was such a role model to ...follow.
Having helped her for so long it was hard to go it alone especially as we had also lost Bill Palmer who taught me how to break in and ride young horses.
The memories i have af all the staff and clients whom i have met taught helped and grown very fond of will be something i can dine on for a long time and the best to me has been my trusty workers the horses and ponies who have brought such joy to so many of you . I have loved them all some for their stubbornness and refusal to conform and making people ride instead of being passengers others for their patience and good manners helping very nervous people actually ride and get over their fear. And others who really teach people how to ride All have been my joy to have here and many are going to stay.
we will welcome you if you wish to see us.It is not as if we were going to shut the gates .Amy and her staff will be very busy ii assure you and at the moment i have oodles to do .I think i will have to write my memoirs .What reading that would be with some of the hilarious things that have happened here .Thank you for all your support over the years and keep in touch please. We are open until the end of august so there is time to talk. xx

Does anyone know of a strong pensioner who loves gardening and still has the puff to cut the grass and tidy the borders. Please get in touch.

I attended Weelsby from 1986 to 2000 I learned to ride there and had a number of Good teachers, Stella and Glenys by far being the best. I have fond memories of Weelsby, I used to help out in the ysrd... on Saturdays, and I used to look after Tango, what a lovely pony he was, full of cheek and character. I regularly attended "camp" as it was called in the School Summer Holidays and I have a number of rosettes from then. Would love to get back in to riding at some point in the future. See More

Excellent community of knowledgable safe horse folk. Great friendly and fun. Lovely to come across such a good bunch who are happy to share their vast knowledge and teach the children to do it right, ...rather than just make do. Thanks to all for supporting Erin in her learning. Xxx See More

At last sunshine and flowers blooming and yesterday the visitors arrived to set up house in the stables and i honestly think the babies are coming back as well as the number of nests seem to increase each year. The cats and dogs will have to get used to being dive bombed but the horses don't seem to mind sharing their space.
My friend Ann has come over from Wales for a visit and we have already had two fun filled days.A pot of tea and loads of memories from Angela and Elaine... and plenty of old photographs to mull over at pennels
.A visit to the beach with Ralph and ending up fish and chipping it on the promenade.
A visit to see her son Paul at the Cafe Mews to take a whopping chocolate cake Ann had conjured up overnight and a visit to Brigg Garden Centre for a pair of sandals for Ann .Then we had a drive round our old haunts at Caistor as we had both attended the grammar School there and i wanted Ann to see the Sports fields as they are now .We just missed seeing Charlotte Linsell and we were told by her friend Glenis that Mr Minns was still going strong in his nineties.
In my spare time i am busy watching Badminton horse trials and i am so proud of watching Ian and Amy's riders do well in their tests and some of them going on to do well in the x country Roz Canter is a little star xx

Amy and Jenny have finally arrived home after three hectic days at Keysoe Premier League Jenny said amy was literally in the saddle from eight in the morning until late ai the evening and their helpers Tara and Geneva were marvellous .It is very fortunate that the girls here now are so dedicated and it makes Amy 's life a bit easier ./The stables were a bit flooded and they had to move some of the horses round once or twice which did not help but the outcome was good and the results very promising with Amy three wins and jenny a wonderful 3rd place with mango in his first competition Amy will put all the results up when she writes her blog but i am so pleased with them all i felt i had to write and let you all know as they had about 10 horses there.

It seems to be ages since i last wrote about the wonders that go on at weelsby but i have been very busy sorting out photo albums and scrap books full of newspaper cuttings for Amy Holly and tracey. It took ages because i had to read it all again before i sorted them out.
It is very busy round the yard as the girls go about their duties and what a lovely group they are .It is very noticable how happy the horses are with the attention exercise and care they are having .and alt...hough i miss the riding school very much i can understand how hard it would have been for Amy to do what she is doing now if the school had still been running.in fact it would have been impossible and the safety aspect for all would have been hard to supervise. I am so pleased that all is going well with Sophie Brown at Cottagers plot and the RDA and the clients who have gone there are all enjoying their riding .I miss you all but we must move with the times.and i am in touch with everyone who has one of our ponies and reading between the lines i really believe they are all very happy doing what they are doing now .Di and Sue keep me up to speed with widget and he looks wonderful.
Amy and Jenny are off to another dressage comp.this weekend and they are taking some of the babies out for their first big outings .It will be hard work and very exciting as they have the established ones going as well so it will be great fun following their progress .Holly is also very busy and last weekend she spent 17 hours getting to ballindesk cannot spell that,to be told it was cancelled so they found a very friendly equestrian yard who put them up .There were five horses and amazingly they found another event who allowed Holly to enter and she had a ball and won and got in the top 10 in every class she entered she was over the moon and could not praise the irish people enough for their help and hospitality
I will let you know how they get on.

Today has been a day of two extremes .Good and bad.The good has been going out for a lovely Sunday lunch at the Counting house in cleethorpes they have really made a good job of the old Bank.Tracy took me and we did a bit of shopping afterwards .Then Carol called in with a pot of bulbs and we had a good catch up and coffee. The sunny weather made it even better .
Then the bad news Di lost her Mother today and my heart goes out to her and her family and then i heard Jo Shor...t had lost her dog in a motor accident .I do not know what happened but i know it was not the dog's fault..I am so upset for them all as they loved Merlin very much and he was no age at all.
Holly is not having much luck with her start of the season as she has managed to get to the venues only to have them cancel This happened to her at gatcombe and the horsebox had to be tractored off the field and HOLLY jumped out to thank the tow tractor man and Rupert locked her out of the lorry. It could only happen to Holly she was in her shirt sleeves in the pouring rain and could not get back in .James Amy,s young man came to the rescue and had to motor down with the spare keys .Rupert is still with us but i bet she could have throttled him.
Still in that vein i made an arrangement to meet a gardening gentleman to get some advice this morning at 11 o'clock so at 10 i go to get a shower ready to go out with Tracy then i go and sit in the kitchen and wait ,and wait .and no visitor eventually i popped outside and asked the girls if any one had come and he had .been and gone i did not know about the time change so my 10 was actually 11 oh dear i then had to ring and apologise .It has made me realize that i am not as with it as i thought xx

I am still getting enquiries for riding lessons from the people looking at my face book page for Weelsby and i find it very easy to promote Sophy Brown and Cottagers Plot as i really like the family and what she is achieving for herself. We have not managed to swap over to Weelsby Park Equestrian Centre on our web site yet so i must apologise for any confusion caused .and i will continue to steer people towards Sophy until she asks me to stop.I do hope all our past clients ar...e still enjoying their riding sessions and i wish you all health and happiness in the future.
I have only two ponies left here now and they are both for sale so if anyone is looking for section B Welsh then ring me .They are second ponies so please do not enquire if your child is a real novice also they are competitive ponies so ambition in the child will go a long way with them.
This coming sunday is going to be a bitter sweet day for me as it is my Wedding anniversary and on reflection there are not many people still with us who made up the wedding party so i will drink a toast to those still here and say a loud cheers.
It is lovely to see the stamp of horses who are in the yard and the girls are really good with them. My boy Prince is back and having to do some growing up as he is four now and ready to start in light training .Something for me to look forward to.

Amy and jenny have had a very busy week-end taking three box loads of their babies out for a go in an arena .They were all quite well behaved and the riders stayed in the saddle and apart from a few loud whinneys the youngsters showed excellent promise and the future looks good .Also they took Viv and her lovely boy Dave out with them for their first outing since coming to Weelsby and she won a red rosette in an affiliated class Considering she was a total bundle of nerves f...or a few days before competing she" did good""and we are all very pleased for her.now in her words its upwards and onwards from now on .Ian is here today and she has had a super lesson with him and is quite pleased with herself.
I would like to say a personal thank you to Jenny's Mum for her help in transport and also to Fiona Griffiths for her lending her driving skills and time and to both of them for the way they set about mucking out the lorries on their return. They are worth their weight in gold and i thank you very much.

I have just been out to dinner with some of my oldest friends a very belated xmas outing as Andi could not get us all together before today .Thank you Andi Anita Sue Dale DI and Anna for giving me such a lovely evening and a thank you to the Kingsway for a super meal and very friendly service.
Needless to say there was plenty of humour and funny memories and news between us and .I am so pleased to hear that Black Jack is still going strong and he is still ridden what a lov...ely pony to have had in the school
Holly is hoping to be up here tomorrow as it is her Godfathers funeral. We are all so sad at the loss of John Elliott and our hearts go out to Sue and Kate and the family.Weelsby has known the family since they introduced Kate to riding when she was 6 years old.and her first claim to fame was riding in front of the famous Mollie Sievwright in a demonstration here she was on the lead rein and from then John and Sue were a very well known part of the place and Kate went on to great success.
God bless you John may you rest in peace we all loved you xx

A very interesting weekend carrying on to Monday and Tuesday The bad weather did not deter Amy Jenny and team weelsby from having a very successful regional championship at Bishop Burton and qualifying four horses for the championships .Owners and riders are all very happy and amy just missed out on the pony she competes among all the big boys as he came a very creditable 4th in his class Amy also had two championship wins on Bran and a 2nd on Don Cara and Jenny won her cla...ss on Diamond
Amy and Jenny were thrilled with the help they got from the girls who went to help them and the support of the owners on all three days and the staff who were left behind were really wonderful and managed the yard very well.It was hard work though and i was pleased i was not having to do it while it was so cold .Still i have done my stint of getting up at unearthly hours to go and compete its nice to watch others do it now.I have also had my share of staying at home to run the yard while others competed'
On Sunday i also went out to lunch at the Dixons .It was a celebration for my friend Di Dixon's 80th birthday. Diane started riding at Weelsby when she was 12 years old so you can say we are quite old friends . It was a lovely lunch with very good company .especially as Tim went to Elsham to fetch Ruth Chatterton to join us and i first met Ruth when she was an instructress at a Pony Club rally i attended to take my D test gosh how many moons ago was that .What a lovely interesting lady she is .i always used to associate her with her friend Ann Nelthorpe who has now passed away .Ann was a keen pony club person along with Win Trafford and the brocklesby was trying to get going again after the war and Lord and Lady Yarborough and Lady wendy Pelham were really enthusiastic and pushed us children to get hunting and competing .It was really good fun and the memories remain very clear.Mr.Harry Hookham and Mr.Berti Gardner taught us hunt manners and how to Hollar and i can remember how in awe i was of Marjorie Stops i think she scared me a bit . oh memories don't get me started i am off to bed now xx

I see by the blogs on my facebook that the ice hockey club is in trouble with its very old ice maker box and a new one is urgently needed. my late husband Allan Woodhead loved his ice hockey and was the secretary and referee with the club for many years and i still have some of the history of it .I did hand over to the club much of what i thought they would like but i kept some personal things which he was presented with.I remember the Redwings from the rink in ladysmith roa...d and Doug Smith with his barrel jumping record .I must admit i never was a good ice skater as i could not master the art of stopping,There were no reins to pull on so i had to always run into the barrier.Great fun .
The reason i am putting this particular story out is to see if there are any collectors of tie pins which represent the old ice hockey clubs out there who would be interested in buying them so the money can be donated to the club to go towards a new ice box There is a CTA red army 1st division. ussr CSSR AHHAMB 1st division Dinamo Moscow Presented by Jiri Peterka to Allan i think in Czechoslovakia. I know this is not the usual horse news but with a few other things i wondered if any one knows a collector who may be interested .

The first month has flown by and i have not sat down to tell you any news. I have been busy getting better and i feel ok now .I have had a very eventful week-end as grand-daughter Holly has been visiting with two of her eventers and TWO dogs . All lodging with me .Rupert looked so fluffy and dare i say it scruffy that i booked him in for a shampoo and haircut and he came back looking beautiful.Sally LLoyd who usually does him has unfortunately had a very nasty arm break fr...om a kick from a horse and she kindly got her friend Jo to do him for me .I do hope Sally gets better soon as her livelihood depends on her having two working arms.
The yard is very busy and i really admire the way the staff are coping .i know Amy is hoping to get at least another member of staff to join her team but its finding the right one .Good riding is essential and being able to be a part of a working team is high on the list.
This month we have to change the name of Weelsby and drop the Riding school off it so we have decided on Weelsby Park E C its not too long and easy to remember and we will have the same address and telephone number i will let you know when the e mail address will change
I have been looking through the old photo albums this past week as i have made room in my Office [ I still call it Allan's office] for Amy to keep her personal stuff and they are really wonderful to see .There is a newspaper photo of sister Maureen at Market Rasen racecourse with all the Brocklesby Pony Club members at Camp. It is lovely with all the children on it i am sure it must be 60 years ago so where are they all now I can recognize many of them it is only one of many.I can see me spending a lot of time going through them .x

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts they really mean a lot to me.My friend Ann Needham is winging her way back to Wales as i write and i am keenly waiting for a phone call to say she is home safe and well . I must say she is great to have as a friend but gosh does she boss you about when you are poorly but it works she has got me going again now i must carry on with the good work.

happy new year everybody i am now back in grimsby and feeling very cold as the central heating pump has given up the ghost and my friend ann needham and i are feeling quite chilly .and it calls for more than a gin and tonic.
I have had a very weird xmas as i was staying with ian at flaxton and i had a very bad pain in my lungs so off to York hospital on boxing day and after blood tests and an x ray the doctor announced i had pleurisy and fluid on the lungs Ian packed me off t...o wales to stay with my friend ann who is a nurse and there i stayed until this past thursday. The lovely doctor i saw in York turned out to be a client i had taught to ride. She had very fond memories of Grant Spirit and lizzie and would have loved to own fimbal but lily got there first.I saw ann's doctor twice in wales and i am off for more tests tomorrow. I am feeling better now so i hope it onwards from now on.
Holly has come home for a flying visit but she is full of cold and Friend Rupert is with her and is he ready for a cut and shampoo.i do hope sally has a spare spot tomorrow.
Amy has been down to addington with three rides and managed three wins and a third .so is happy .
i am now too cold to stay in the kitchen so will say goodnight and go sit near the fire .
