I will never forget the pain, suffering, and isolation I experienced at your school for being brave enough to speak my beliefs. I came from a diverse community in Los Angeles, CA, always a minority am...ongst other races. I was called "white girl" because there were only two of us and my best girlfriends were black and Mexican. But at Whitman? I was asked to join the Multicultural Center and had a real hard time making friends with white students. In classes, I was called "racist", but outside, the only two (of maybe 3 or 4?) Mexican girls in Jewett were my best friends. Every turn I made at Whitman, someone was justifying the hatred I experienced in classrooms, with professors, and as I walked to class. Diversity at Whitman meant to me strictly skin color as you put my brown Latina friend on the cover of your magazine and ignored my pleas for help when I had suicidal thoughts. See More

I went to school here for two years and it was the worst school experience of my life. People are very mean and judgemental and the college itself is overrated and overpriced. You pay what you would f...or Harvard or Yale each year with not much more distinction than you would get from any other accredited college. I ended up getting a BS from another college with a 68% acceptance rate for a small fraction of the price that I spent at Whitman. Total waste of money. See More

Then, after grad school, I returned to teach for a year and had the privileg...e of interacting with another amazing generation of Whitties.
