AGLC is reviewing its laws about drinking outside. While developing the WinterCity Strategy, we heard loud and clear that Edmontonians would love to enjoy hot toddies and mulled wine outside in winter. We hope AGLC takes this opportunity to let us catch up with how other winter cities celebrate the snowy season.

Just a reminder that deadline is today at 5 p.m.!

Here it is folks! If you missed the Apple Pay video projection on Edmonton's ATB Financial building last week, you can see it here. Light shows like this rely on darkness for maximum effect, and we've got lots of that in the winter. Would you like to see more video projection in Edmonton?

What an April it's been! High temperatures and early greening has made it a spring for the record books. Or has it? We love this blog that goes into incredible nerdy detail about Edmonton weather, and we learned some fascinating trivia about our climate. For example, it's an unusual April if we DON'T hit 20 degrees, at least once. And how many days were below -20 this past winter? Only 6! Is that unusual? Read on to find out...

A great winter city isn't created from the top down. It takes a shift in culture and thinking from architects, designers, city planners, artists, and of course, the public, to really inhabit our cold-weather months, rather than just put up with them. The fabulous folks at MADE are helping to spur on that change by this cool winter design exhibition for architects and designers that will take place next year. But now is the time to start thinking about design ideas - know any creative folks who should enter?

Edmontonian Brian Small started doing some research about our winters this year, when he was bombarded by "How to Dress For Winter" articles that didn't seem to take "actual" (ie. Edmonton) winter into consideration. So he came up with this fascinating chart that compares our seasonal low temperatures with other locations around the world. Check out how we rank when it comes to winter weather around the globe - and guess who was colder, Edmonton, Harbin, or Moscow!

Beginning around the end of October the menswear blog-sphere is awash in how to dress for winter articles. Apparently for most men in the northern hemisphere winter-wear means putting a sweater on under an uninsulated jacket and calling it done. I know Edmonton is one of the colder cities on the p…

We may see a return of the white stuff tonight. But it'll be green again before you know it - in fact, it'll give our plants some much needed moisture!

The earth, when viewed from space, helps put many things into perspective. It is our home, it provides everything we need, and it's up to each of us to take care of it. On this Earth Day, what small - or large - commitment are you going to make to keep our home clean and beautiful?

What a better way to celebrate Earth Day than watching the planet from a new out-of-this-world perspective!

Friends, we need some brainstorming help! We'd like to take part in Make Something Edmonton's ‪#‎100in1Day‬ event on June 4, which is part of a world-wide movement designed to inspire makers and city-builders to participate in projects that make cities better. If it was happening in the winter, we'd have a million and one ideas. But because the event is in June, we're a little bit stumped! What kind of project could we do, or event could we host, that showcases our winter values on June 4?!

Even better, what are YOU going to for #100in1Day?!

100 in 1 Day is a day to turn ideas into reality all over the city by celebrating the cumulative power of small changes and temporary projects. Start by submitting your ideas, participating in the workshop, and then launch your project on June 4.

Today was a record-setting day: 25.5 degrees! A huge difference from a couple of years ago...

It will feel more like July than April on Monday, when temperatures are expected to reach the mid-20s and may even break a 106-year-old record. That's a sharp contrast to two years ago, when the city was hit by a spring snowstorm.
