Today’s encouragement comes from Becca Criswell. Becca and her husband have two beautiful girls. She has written such beautiful truth!

NAME: Becca Criswell

TITLE: Encouragement for Mamas

SCRIPTURE: “He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.” Isaiah 40:11

DEVOTIONAL: What a sweet, sweet, Lord we have. This verse was recently shared with me by a friend and it spoke such TRUTH to me, especially the last line. Who is the Lord leading gently? Moms. He gently leads moms who have young. This brings me such peace. It makes me feel seen and cared for in a season where I often feel unseen and exhausted. We are never alone. He’s gently leading us. Some of you may not be in the “young motherhood” stage of life, but you likely have a daughter, sister, or friend who is and what an encouragement this can be to them!

Prayer Thought: May your hearts be encouraged today that the Lord is leading you as you lead your young ones!

Colossians 3:12-17 “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts” 1 Peter 3:8-13 “Seek peace and pursue it”

If you’re around our family, even for minutes, you’ll hear us say to our two young boys - “Make peace!”.
There seems to be an unrealistic expectation that I’ve picked up along the way. You see, if I were to define peace, it would be the ABSENCE of conflict. When I think of peace, I’m thinking boys sitting on the floor playing kindly with gratitudes flowing from their lips. Or plenty of time to complete my task list. Or plenty of money to go around. I’m thinking laughter and fun with family and friends - without the mess of humanity. I’m defining peace by my circumstance.
And the grace and patience of the Spirit, gently says to me - no, this is not peace. Peace is not found externally, it is found on the throne of your heart! Peace is not the absence of conflict - it is standing in the midst of inevitable conflict to find HOPE, TRANSFORMATION and NEW LIFE! This is what Jesus came for. This is the peace He offers to me, and through me, to His world.
Jesus came into the Roman empire and many missed him because they, like me, expected the Son of God to overthrow the conflict. Jesus walked with 12 men in constant relational misunderstanding and even betrayal.
So I am being asked to redefine peace: Let’s expect conflict and still “make peace!” as we allow His hope, purpose and new life to rule our hearts.

Prayer Thought:

Let’s meditate on our faulty assumptions or expectations of peace. May our hearts be ruled by peace within, despite the circumstance. May we put on the “clothes of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” and forgive quickly (as we expect conflict!) and unify through His strong love. Let’s seek His peace and pursue it!
