We finally have a good rain storm here in Northen California. Expected to drop 1-2 inches in the valley and 2-3 in the Sierras with snow following. So as you go about making your commute to and from work, please reduce your speed and remember the roads are slick. Plan ahead and leave a little bit earlier. Arrive alive.

First Aid For Cold Weather Injuries - Being exposed to the weather is going to be a prime consideration...

New Years Eve is just 3 days away and parties are being planned. Family and friends will be celibrating a new year.
If you decide to go out and celibrate, please remember to NOT drink and drive. January 1st is one of the worst days for DUI related fatalities. This is due to festivities ending after midnight on the 1st and Football games on the 1st as well. Beer and football seem to go hand in hand, for many, but remember some of you need to drive home.
Please have a desi...gnated driver or other means of transportation to get home. Some towing companies offer free towing and a ride home. Taxis, Uber and Lyft are good alternatives to driving drunk. Enjoy the holiday and bring in the new year in a safe and responsible way.

Please check out this web site to learn more about what is considered drunk driving. https://buzzeddriving.org/…

Remember to be extra careful during the holidays. Overloaded outlets and surge protectors are hazardous. Be sure to check your Christmas/Holiday tree every day... and water it if needed. 40% of all home fires during the holidays are caused by your tree and most can be prevented. Know 2 ways out of your house. Plan a fire drill and practice it. Teach it to your chilren. Have a safe place to meet.

Halloween is next Tuesday and kids will be out trick or treating. Are you prepared to take your kids out on the streets? A little planing and preparation know can make the experience much safer.
Please, if you go out with children, make sure they can be seen in the dark by using reflective materials or Glow sticks on the front and back of their costumes. Have a good flash light and carry a whistle. A whistle will get the attention of a driver pretty quick.
Always check the candy they get before you let them eat some. Some people do stupid things for Halloween.
Please remember to drive with caution. Kids do not always make the safest decisions.
Be safe. Be perpared. Be CERT.

It is almost Halloween, that means the clocks will be set back an hour soon. It also means it is time to check your emergency disaster kits and go bags. Go through your kits and bags to check for any expired supplies and replenish with new.
Make sure the first aid kits are up to date. Check your food packages and canned goods, if you see any holes, opened wrappers or dented can seams, they should be replaced. Batteries too. Batteries can go bad after a while. The summer heat is not good for them.
It's never to late to start preparing for a disaster. You and your family are worth the effort. If you like, you can visit our web site at www.wscert.org. Be safe. Be prepared.
