It's all for the love of football and on Saturday Day one there was a whole lot of love going on around this country for the XFL. Welcome to the NFL. Pre-game show live from XFL headquarters on the coach and this is Elise Ashton and what a day whoo we had on Saturday. It was fun football coach. I felt like it was a playoff high steaks football and today we have two more big matchups coming to you from MetLife Stadium, the home of your XL New York Guardians against the Tampa Bay Vipers on Fox at Two PM Eastern. And then the Saint Louis Battle Hawks and Dallas Renegades Square off on ESPN at Five PM Eastern. but before we get into today's match ups, let's break down all the action from yesterday, starting with the first XFL game of 2020 between the Dragons and the defenders at Audi Field. But there's a lot of questions on whether or not the offenses would be ready. The teams will be ready. those questions answered. roll it here. We go Seattle long trip for week one all the way to the. Capitals silvers on one side Cardel Jones on the other the very first score of the game that goes to Seattle Brenda Silver's Austin Pro, the son of former NFL wide receiver Ricky Pro. It just like that the Dragons on top let's stay in the first quarter a logic Campbell. Oh, that's a black pot pick it up Scoop score all in one motion Jonathan testing for the touchdown, then how about a little double reverse pass. Remember double forward passes are legal in the XFL too. This one is tied in. His only catch of the game and I went for a 40 yard touchdown at the half DC in the lead. Let's go Brandon Silvers for you think that he feels comfortable with Austin Pro. I think so finds the wide receiver couple of moves down the sideline touchdown 50 - seven yards, silvers 20 - 140 - 2173 scores, But this is about Cardel Jones, the former standout from Ohio State. What a National Championship throwing dimes this for 290 - one scores no interceptions silvers, not so lucky this one going back to Bradley Sylvester pick 630 - 119 just came in under the under, which is another exciting aspect of this, the gambling aspect and they had the ball inside the five -yard line. At one point. they fumbled never scored again. so those who are recording holding an under ticket. They would win. That's right coach and now Cardel Jones he he lived up to the hype of what all the fans were were saying it and then calling They were chanting MVP and let's not get ahead of ourselves. It's it's only week one, but he played very very well and clearly the fans were happy with their quarterback, But my biggest takeaway was the fans themselves. They came ready. They were excited. Clearly they had gone to XFL shop to get their gear. Our Commission was in the House, Oliver Luck and these fans you talk about fans that came ready open minded. They had their team. You knew they were fans of the defenders and they came out and horse and I was very impressed with the fans on Saturday. That's right they were out in full force, but like I said it might be a little premature to anoint Cardell MVP, but I'm impressed with how much the DC fans got behind their team. We're all decked out. Do I say go defenders. Well, you got stuff for every team so you're gonna be jumping week to week and that's okay for you. But that's what everybody else Yesterday. Though we'll talk about that second game. We also saw the LA Wildcats fall to the Houston Roughnecks 37 to 17 on XFL opening day. Let's see that performance from our quarterback in Houston. Yeah, PJ Walker now the MVP chance they might have been for him cuz the former quarterback. Came out just dropping dimes here we go let's go to Houston The Wildcats and the Houston rough next, but their offense was anything but rough on Saturday, Boy PJ Walker. We're gonna be seeing his name a bunch over the course of the next 10 weeks. How about first quarter camp Phillips touchdown 50 yards, Phelps four catches 60 - seven yards on the day. Let's stay in the first quarter, L A Charles Cannon He was in and out of the game with injuries, but Jordan Smallwood look Two Feed in touchdown 20 - one to 4214 Ford Cannot back to Walker How about a great design on the past to the running back. That's James Butler takes it into a 20 yard score for the running back, then Walker, we said. this game is gonna be fast and you have to have speed. You gotta be able to buy time you gotta have vision, But Walker did all of those things on this play into the stomach of Passes for Walker and then the defense would take over how about a tip. Interception Dedrick Nichols look at the great hands and then the interception by Houston and then more defense by the Roughnecks this time the quarterback and there was a football be covered by Houston. 30. - 717 is your final in their first game. What a what Game This was for everybody, including the quarterback, PJ Walker clearly MVP of Saturday, four touchdowns almost 300 yards passing and the key staff there. in my opinion, 50 - nine percent on your completion percentage that was gonna make these offices go. BJ Walker the best performance of anybody on any team from day one, so is that your biggest takeaway from Houston. Well, there's no doubt about it. they were really really happy with how they scored. the fans were great. The offense. very, my biggest takeaway was how advanced Was they were light years ahead of everybody else on Saturday in my opinion, L A different different side LA's quarterback Charles Cannon. He seemed to really struggle in yesterday's game. He struggled but the whole team struggle, but also the the the head coach Winston Moss after the game. He kinda summed it up very very well, he said this and I wanna make sure I get it right. quote. This was our first test. We failed. I'm gonna get on that plane. I'm gonna find guys who want to play ball and hate losing as much as I do translation. Is gonna be some players that are on this plane right now that will not be playing next week. In fact, won't be on the team. You can't give weeks away. your effort has to be there from day one. It's only 10 games not 16, so you gotta be ready from from the jump and I don't think that they were in their head coach says that they weren't so they're getting ready for the next week and they won't make hopefully won't make those mistakes again. Well, you'd hope not we'll see we'll see well. It's definitely an exciting day one and I can't wait to see what the Tampa Bay Vipers at the New York Guardians do on Fox Two PM Eastern and then the late game Saint Louis Battle Hawks at Dallas Renegades on ESPN at. PM Eastern. For more information, go to X F L dot com. This is your game day fit. This is your I'm not leaving the House today. Gear. This is not your proof and natural same old swag. Two epic battles First, the Tampa Bay Viper in the New York Guardians Live from MetLife Stadium and speaking of today's game. Let's check in with our own Andrew Brill, who is coming to us from the New York Guardians Team Hotel. Hi Andrew Thanks Elise. I'm here at the Guardians Hotel where these guys are ready to go. They tell me they're anxious to get this one started because they know the odds makers have made them the only home underdog. First Week of the XFL season now head coach Kevin Gilbert has his offensive players ready to rock and roll expect them to pound the rock with Tim Cook and Darius Victor. then let Matt McEwan use some play action to get the ball down field to his playmakers. defensively coach Jim Herman believes he's got the big guys up front to stop the run make Aaron Murray and the Vipers one dimensional then use his secondary, which he believes can cover one on one so he can send extra guys at the quarter. These guys are ready to go. They tell me they've had a very good breakfast, but they're looking forward to lunch because Viper is on the menu from the team Hotel. I'm Andrew Brill back to you guys in the studio. Love that Thanks Andrew. Speaking of Matt McGloin, the former quarterback at Penn State and the NFL, found a unique way to get ready to quarterback the Guardians by hanging out with New York's finest. I'm 20 - nine years old. I'm playing football since I was five, you know so that long. it's such a part of who I am that I wanna play this game for as long as I can one on one Internet. Huh. Yeah, it's Let's go had the opportunity to come out here today and you know meet a bunch of guys from the New York Police Department Finest football team. What we do is football players compared to what they do every single day so to be out here having a nice conversation with them throw a football around. It's a great experience, Fantastic day and being a part of this League presents amazing opportunities like this. Right about right here right pass me back. I got it. This is why they make Uber nowadays. That's how you do it. I wasn't heavily recruited coming out of high school, so I had limited options and Penn State was you know a school that wanted to me be part of their team. It was a great opportunity. There just took it. one day at a time was extremely consistent and I think that's the way you have to be when you play this game at any level really. But now you know they have this chance here with the XFL is is definitely a fresh start for me very cool. There are no better. To have the New York's finest now as far as the game goes today, there is no harder job in sports than to play quarterback for a New York football team right before in the NFL. He's played big time College football at Penn State. If anybody can do it start a new team in the Big Apple. Well, it's Matt McGloin, but that's day Two PM Eastern time on Fox. We have another game later today, Five PM Eastern on ESPN Saint Louis Battle Hawks facing off against the Dallas Renegades at Global Life Park in Arlington, Texas. So let's check in with Zan. Early at the Saint Louis Battle Hawks Hotel, Hi Sam Thanks Elise. We're gonna focus in on 20 - one -year-old safety Kenny Robinson from the Battle Hawks today playing in his first pro game and his first football game in over a year. He should have just finished up his junior year at West Virginia and said he decided to come to the XFL and start his pro career and he said one of the main reasons why that transition has been so seamless is because of his counterpart in the secondary veteran Will Hill, he said that Hills Every day just makes him want to become a better player and played to his fullest potential. and now today they'll be tagged with stopping Dallas Air raid offense, which will be led by Philip Nelson, getting the start over the injured Landry Jones back to you guys in the studio. We're looking forward to that game Saint Louis Battle Hawks in the Dallas Renegades they get in it and remember you can see that game on ESPN at five PM Eastern.
