From Mike Bailey, Yadkin Valley District Superintendent: As we serve Christ, we often find ourselves called into a primary arena of ministry with our own families. Four years ago, Lauralee and I found ourselves becoming the primary caregivers for her mother in what turned out to be the last three years of her life. Then, 15 months ago, I began doing the best "long distance" caregiving I could carry out for what turned out to be the last 6 months of my father's life. In the ...midst of it all, caring for a congreation and caring for a loved one, the question continually surfaced, "who cares for the care-giver?" We are blessed in that our WNCC Leadership Development Team is providing an opportunity for those of you (and your staff) who find themeslves in such a situation. More, the cost is affordable for all. Please know that I velieve that your care for others, your family and your church, is built upon healthy self-care. I've personally been in ministry with the leaders of this retreat and you won't find any more compassionate, talented facilitators who are living what many of you are living than Alice and Virginia. Consider making the event a priority if you are in a care-giving chapter in your life. "Mercies in Disguise" is a spiritual retreat for clergy and ministry professionals who are caregivers for family members, whether spouses, aging parents or children with special needs. The retreat will be offered at St. Francis Springs Prayer Center in Stoneville, NC on Monday, October 23, 2017 beginning at 5:00 p.m. through Tuesday, Octover 24, at 3:00 p.m. Cost for participants is only $30 which includes overnight lodging and meals. The remainder of costs are covered by a grant from the WNCC Leadership Development Team. Registration deadline is September 30, 2017. For more information, contact Rev. Alice Kunka at firstname.lastname@example.org. To register, go to: http://www.christgreensboro.org/retreats.
Bishop Leeland asks that every church take a special offering on Sunday for victims of Harvey.
UMAR Sunday at Faith UMC, Rural Hall. Residents from the three UMAR homes in Winston-Salem were in charge of the service. It was a very inspirational service. Appreciative that our new Yadkin Valley District Superintendent, Mike Bailey, and wife, Lauralee, could attend.
A great worship workshop offered by the Yadkin Valley District.
