On Oct. 14, 1947, West Virginia native Chuck Yeager dropped from the... belly of a bomber, fired up the engines on his Bell X-1 rocket airplane, and shattered the sound barrier. As the General tells his Yeager Scholars, "I was just doing my job."
Today, the Society of Yeager Scholars is proud to bear the name of this curious and feisty hero, who, through unparallelled determination and leadership, changed the world as it was known.
God speed, General! See More
The Fifth Annual Black History Month Poster Contest at Marshall Univ...ersity wraps up Friday, so our freshmen Yeager Scholars presented their entries today to Prof. Sandra Reed, Prof. Burnis Morris, of the Carter G. Woodson Lyceum, and Dr. LoCascio, Honors College Dean. The 2021 theme is Diversity and Racial Justice.
To prepare for their poster project, the Yeager Scholars reviewed the importance of data visualization and visual literacy during their seminar, as well as participated in a conversation with Marshall’s COO, Brandi Jacobs Jones. Outside of seminar, the students continue to expand their racial justice education by participating in an implicit bias training and in the book club with President Gilbert, reading “How To Be An Anti-Racist” and “White Fragility.”
