Apostle Asher William, overseer of our work in Pakistan, on TV in Karachi.....
Acts 15:24 ….. We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said.
We have a situation here where some men came down from Judah to Antioch and were teaching, without authorization, doctrines that were troubling and disturbing to the gentile believers....
Holy Spirit wisdom identified the error and a divinely inspired letter was dispatched through anointed servants to rectify the problem by encouraging and strengthening the Antioch brothers.
Sadly, this scenario is all too common. People can go off ‘half-cocked’ with a doctrine based on unsanctified good ideas that sends vulnerable new converts into a tailspin of confusion.
It does not stop there; the resulting off-centred babies often grow up to be misfit Christians who’s man-made wobble stops them synchronizing with the word of truth and because of that they gravitate to the edges of Christendom where they become easy prey for the enemy. All because some went out without godly authorization.
To authorize means to delegate power or authority. Jesus Christ authorized His disciples to go out to fulfil the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).
The early church was under a mandate to do what Jesus had been doing. Jesus has not changed His mind; He is still the same today. Leaders authorize their disciples to go. To go without that authorization is to go without God……and that is a formula for disaster.
Lord Jesus, please help us to wait for your authorization. Amen
Deuteronomy 32:12 …. Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.
These words, recited by Moses, echo my own heart’s desire. I passionately believe in the value of discipleship....
Over the years I have had the great privilege and honour of leading many hundreds of people through the prayer of accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour. However, I came to realize that ‘getting saved’ is only the beginning of God’s purpose for mankind and not, as is often misunderstood, the final stage.
Immediately after committing our life to Jesus we must seek to be baptized in the Holy Spirit (John 1:29 and John 1: 33-34). Without baptism in the Holy Spirit we would be unable to live a power-filled Christian life and, furthermore, we would not be able to live in the revelation of God’s word.
Discipleship is not another name for bible study; discipleship is a life-long apprenticeship with Jesus. Through revelation by the Holy Spirit the bible becomes the living word of God and, when these revelations are applied to our life, we become more and more like Jesus.
During the past eight years God has refined what was formerly the study material for The Way Christian Bible College into what has become word-source material for The Way Christian Ministries Training for Life Course (TFL).
The TFL course for residential students, full or part-time, is five faceted (click here for more details). For those who cannot be residential we have developed the ‘Spiritual’ facet to become a stand alone teaching tool that will progressively develop the born-again believer into a disciple for Jesus.
Currently we are making our Teaching Notes and Audio Teaching available on request. For those who have IT access these resources are available online but for those who don’t the resources can be sent through the postal service.
Once you have begun we will assess the level of teaching that is best for you and we will send you the appropriate material.
Our calling is to make disciples who will make disciples who will make disciples….. Is God calling you?
Lord Jesus, please teach us your ways that we may walk in your truth. Amen.
A Funeral and a Wedding
John 2: 1-2 ……. "On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding." (Jesus’ first miracle on earth)
1 Corinthians 6:14 …….. "By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also." (Jesus’ last miracle on earth)
I am writing this week’s Gist as I make my way to the funeral of a friend’s father. Tomorrow I travel to Holland for the wedding of a Dutch friend. I am acutely aware of the obvious contrasts, but as I ponder on this I can begin to see similarities that are, at first, not apparent.
From the scriptures quoted we see that the first and last miracles of Jesus were at a wedding in Cana and then at His own funeral when He rose from the grave.
Although we think of weddings as full of hope and brightness and funerals as dark and hopeless, for Christians this is not the case……
1 Thessalonians 4:13 …….. "Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope."
The joy of the union of two souls on their wedding day lifts our heart with gladness but the separation of a loved one brings us deep sadness, yes, even for Christians there is a sense of loss but there is also a tremendous hope. At the passing of a Christian they leave us for a while but they go to be eternally united with Jesus and we have the assurance of being reunited with them in heaven.
Therefore, what at first seems two very different occasions are not so different after all, both are a celebration of life. Traditionally, it is at weddings and funerals that families and friends come together to celebrate the start of life and the end of life on earth. The new life of the happy couple who are full of love for each other and the life of the deceased who has passed into eternal union with the lover of His soul, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Lord Jesus, thank you for being the guest of honour at our weddings and our funerals. Amen
