PlacesYpsilanti, MichiganThe Mutual Aid Network of Ypsilanti
Within our mutual aid network, we’re excited to connect and build within our capacities at the speed of trust.
OUR FACEBOOK PAGE:
Is a place for folks who want to stay up to date with news, events, and major announcements, learn about our structure, support the movement through donations, or read about our Ways of Being. This is a place for people in our broader network that want to support and follow the movement.
...We also have a private group for folks living in or around Ypsilanti who want to be directly part of our grassroots organizing efforts. We want to help grow a culture in Ypsi based on anti-oppression, direct democracy, self-determination, and care.
BEFORE REQUESTING TO JOIN THE COMMUNITY GROUP:
Please take time to read the resources on our Page under the “Services,” “Notes,” and “About” tabs.
We want to bring new members on in a way that can actually plug people into cooperative projects, resource exchange, and collective care.
We're avoiding a giant group of people who don’t work together or share common principles. We also want to ensure that this group remains anti-racist and unabusive. For that reason, our group has collectively decided that we want:
1. Priority in the participation of displaced, disabled, working class folk, and people of color. “Nothing about us without us is for us.”
2. No bosses, commercial landlords, cops, active military, or high-profile politicians approved for the safety of our group.
3. Admins working together to add new member requests if they’ve answered our questions, are connected to the community, aren't historically abusive, and have read our Ways of Being.
4. More people to help behind the scenes! Admin spots are reviewed by request or by invitation.
5. Admins to follow our Ways of Being as facilitators, not police. Admins are accountable to the group like everyone else in our caring community.
We’re getting ready to host another Pullover Prevention event this month! Coming up in the next two weeks!
