Hey, it's Valentine's Day and we love music, so we're popping open for this wonderful quintet. Three of these great musicians are return guests for ZIggy's, and we're honored to have Molly Jones and Nathan Flanders in the house for the first time. Check the event discussion for a preview, and know that we're getting what the legendary Cliff Bell's Club in downtown Detroit gets, just a day early (Neal's on tour, you know). Thanks SO MUCH for getting us to a thousand likes (!!!). Announcements on our expanded hours and expanded other things as soon as we can make them. Hope to see you!
Now this is going to be something special. Tonight, Ziggy's is proud to welcome KAMBA NANE all the way from Kenya!!! Dave Sharp and his RAKA ensemble will be joining the band and you can check the event's discussion page for an article from AADL's publication Pulp plus a short documentary featuring tonight's artist. You don't get to hear the Nyatiti played live every day. Music starts somewhere around 7:30. Hope to see you!
It's Madness, I tells ya!!! But really, if you like your Bass Clarinet on the avant side of the spectrum, this is your chance to see it live. Mr. Formanek has graced our stage before, and we've dug every note, while Mr. Michalowski transcends every time we hear him, which has mostly been at his home base at Kerrytown Concert House. We've got pie, baked goods, and hot chai for this cold evening, but what's gonna come off that stage will be your real winter warmer. Madness!!! Hope to see you!
Just a quick note to say we're open two nights this week with a pair of shows that excite us to no end!!! First up, we've got Dual Bass Clarinet Madness at Ziggy's Thursday with Pete Formanek and Piotr Michalowski (making this a Kerrytown Concert House-Ziggy's connection!!!). Pete's played our space before, and we've dug every note, so hearing him beside Piotr will surely make this a killer gig. Friday, it's African Beats w/KAMBA NANE (from Kenya) + RAKA and if you've learne...d how to correctly pronounce "Ypsilanti", you should have no problem learning how to say "Nyatiti", which is Kamba's main instrument (more info and a short documentary in the Pulp article below). Big announcements to come on Ziggy's bright future (cue Carly Simon's "Anticipation") but for now, we're loving this week's music. Hope to see you!!!
We'll be closed next week to work on some awesome changes we're anxious to announce, but this is happening tonight, and we're just as excited. Impulse - The Band return to Ziggy's and they're one of our favorites, playing a jazz-funk-rock-R&B mix that blows the mind every time. Showmanship? They've got it locked down, and if your not here tonight, you're really somewhere else. Add Raspberry pie to the mix from our friends at Eat Catering And Carry-Out plus the mighty Qween Louie on stage to make it extra lit, and that's one special Saturday Night. Hope to see you!!!
Back on it tonight with a quartet that blows our mind, every time. Get ready for the stellar sounds of Tim Flood, Tim Haldeman, Justin Walter, and Jon Taylor. There will be selections from Roswell Rudd, Frank Lowe, and Charlie Haden, and we'll have the usual pie, treats, and espresso bar. Hope to see you!!!
Opening at 5pm tonight and kicking off a week of events with a night featuring the Wax Kings crew. Come sit in on their live webcast, for free. Pie, baked goods, and dance music from 7-10pm. Hope to see you!!!
Last night, we raised the roof with Nadim Azzam and hip-hop from the Northern Threat Entertainment crew. Tonight, it's digitally processed sounds, modern composition, free improv and avant jazz as we welcome Joo Won Park along with Josh Harlow and Joe Suikhonen. We're Ziggy's and we love music. Hope to see you!!!
